Today’s Wordle was pretty tricky for me, but I managed to guess it in four tries. I started with “TIMER,” which gave me two green letters right away. After that, I had to spend some time figuring out what my other options were. I guessed “AIDES” and then “VIDEO,” which eventually led me to “WIDEN.”

“Widen” (obviously) is a form of “wide”, which traces its history back to Proto-Germanic “wīdaz”. This later became Old English “wīdaz” (meaning wide or vast), which became Middle English “wid” or “wyd”.

The challenge lies in how your guesses count towards all the words, so you have to decide whether you’re going to focus on a specific word or try to solve multiple words at once. Thankfully, the number of guesses you’re offered increases depending on the number of words you have to solve.
