Beetle is a beetle that you can find crawling on the sand in the desert region of Sumeru or underground, which you will find vital for the ascension of certain characters in Genshin Impact.
Genshin Impact 3.1 introduced Cyno, the five-star electro character wielding a polearm. One of his ascension materials is the Scarab, so if you’ve ever had a chance to unlock him, you’ll need those bugs if you want to increase his power.
To make sure you can max out this powerful character as fast as possible, this guide covers everything you need to know about how you can use Scarab and where to find Scarab.
Where to find Scarab in Genshin Impact
You’ll find scarabs in Genshin Impact exclusively in the Sumeru region, specifically the desert region to the west that arrived as part of the 3.1 update.
You can get your first Scarab through a cavern tunnel right next to the first Statue of Seven when you first arrive in the desert. The village of Aaru is just ahead, and if you head northwest of the village during the day, you’ll find a kid called Nawaz who will not only tell you about the scarabs, but also give you four for free – although this only happens once.
From this village, head southeast until you reach Dar al-Shifa, which is occupied by enemies. There are two beetles here, but you’ll need to head underground to find them. The opening is towards the end of this encampment and you will need a geo-based character to drill a hole in the ground.
For more scarabs hiding underground, two on the map below appear as if they are along the road south of Aaru Village. However, you actually find them by going underground via Abdju Pit to the north and following the Golden Slumber world quest.
Back to the surface – from the teleport waypoint south of Abdju’s Pit and east of Sobek Oasis, drop down to the area below and you’ll find a beetle near a cactus. From there, instead of following the path, head southwest and you can pick up three scarabs here, then use a four-leaf seal to reach a rock in front of which another scarab is waiting.
Head west from here and you’ll eventually reach another teleport waypoint, while a beetle is also waiting near a cactus. From this waypoint, descend to Sobek Oasis and follow the sandy path to find three more scarabs.
Next, head south of the desert next to the Dahri Valley where the second statue of the seven is located. A scarab is waiting next to the statue. Drop off the cliff and slide down to the area below and you’ll find two scarabs to pick up together. Don’t hang around though, because there’s an ancient machine aiming at you.
Return to the statue then head west. Just as you go up a slope and almost see an old temple in front of you, you should also find a Scarab along the way.
You can find a Scarab sitting on top of a rock structure, which you can grab using a Four Leaf Seal, near the teleport point which is in the southernmost part of the desert. North of the waypoint is an enemy camp but if you avoid it you will find a beetle on the right and two beetles on the left, one of which is perched on a rock.
The west of this area is the Hypostyle Desert, and here we will start in the southern area where there are two dunes – each also housing temple ruins. You will find two Scarabs near the Dune of Elusion teleport waypoint.
Head east from here near the cliff and there’s a beetle between two red trees. Go north from there and, although there are fewer landmarks, another Scarab can be found crawling near a dry bush.
Next, head further west to the Molten Dune where you’ll find a Scarab on some ruins just southwest of the main temple structure. But, in between, there’s also a temple ruin you should stop at that has a scarab to collect, and a few four-leaf seals will help make this hike less difficult.
Northwest of Molten Dune are two more Scarabs – one above another ruined structure, the other slightly lower. The area has some tough machine enemies roaming around, but also four-leaf seals to help you get around.
There are also markers to the north of the two dunes showing beetle locations, but these are underground, which brings us to the next part of the farm run.
You’ll find a fair number of Scarabs at King Deshret’s Mausoleum, though the majority of them are actually underground. To reach these areas, however, you must first access the Mausoleum, which can be done by following the Golden Sleep World quest.
If you get to the mausoleum early, you can still find scarabs on the surface. There are two northeast of the mausoleum and two more very close and directly north of the structure.
The following instructions assume you have accessed King Deshret’s Mausoleum and activated all teleport waypoints:
From the easternmost teleport waypoint (and actually closer to the Temple of Khemenu), head straight until you come to a room where you can turn left. Now follow the hallway to a door on your right; if you have completed the necessary puzzles of the world quest, it should be open and you will fall deep. At the bottom, head south and along this path you will find four Scarabs.
You can explore two levels from the underground teleport waypoint north of the mausoleum; there are two Scarabs in the upper part along the steps and one Scarab in the lower part in front of a canine statue.
From the southwesternmost underground teleport waypoint in the mausoleum, drop down to the southwest to find a scarab near a torch fire and you’ll find another to the northeast where the scarab is crawling near a starshroom.
Then descend the steps leading from the underground teleport waypoint at the southwest corner of the mausoleum into a large underground cavern. Here, use the four leaf seals on the side to reach the higher ground in front of you and find three scarabs. If you go up from here you will enter a chamber where another Scarab is at the end of the room.
Follow the path down and you’ll eventually come to another cavernous room. Slide down and you’ll find a beetle in the southeast corner behind a rock pillar, while another beetle hides under some ruins, accessible through a gap to the side.
From the teleport waypoint to the northwest of the mausoleum, there is a hole you can fall through that acts as a shortcut to the basement of the mausoleum (be aware that the entrance must first be opened from the interior before it can be used). Follow this route until you can drop down to the lowest level where you’ll find two more Scarabs.
Next, head to the northwest section of the map where you’ll find the Garden of Endless Pillars estate. You’ll need to solve a puzzle to access it, but then you can pick up four nearby Scarabs.
Head to Carouse Dune, – the entrance can be reached from the east side, so it makes sense to get there from the teleport waypoint nearby. Once inside, you will need to solve a puzzle that will allow you to cross to a higher area where you can pick up a beetle.
A beetle can be found just south of the third statue of the seven, which is north of the Temple of Khemenu, so drop down and pick it up.
This brings us to the final desert area to the northeast. From the teleport waypoint just west of Khaj-Nisut, you’ll find two Scarabs on a rocky surface to the southwest. Keep going southwest and you’ll see a higher area that you can reach via a four-leaf seal, where you’ll find two more scarabs.
Between Khaj-Nisut and the village of Aaru are two teleport points. Head northeast from the southwest waypoint, ignoring the gust of wind, and enter the ravine to find two Scarabs.
There’s a Scarab right next to the northeast waypoint. Facing south, you then have a slightly steep climb in front of you as well as a group of enemies ready to attack, but also a Beetle clinging to the tree.
Happy beetle hunting!
