Expeditions: a Mudrunner game is the new game in the iconic cross-country saga developed by Saber Interactive and distributed by Focus Entertainment. In this new adventure, We are faced with a large number of shipments in two completely different locations. Test our driving skills at any time. What I can tell you from the first moment is that if you liked the two previous parts; This one will not leave you indifferent.
This third part goes even further. Entering the “open world” concept and a total area of 32 square kilometers The possibilities that the game will offer us are endless. If you want to know if this game is for you, I invite you to join me throughout this analysis.
Before we begin, I want to thank Focus Entertainment for making this review possible.
Expeditions: A Mudrunner game presents a different concept
As mentioned previously, Throughout this title we will travel through two enormous landscapes with a large number of missions and challenges. The two zones in question will be located on two different continents: America and Europe. More precisely in the Arizona desert in the United States and in the Carpathian range in Europe. This diversity of environments offers a multitude of possibilities not only when it comes to the missions that the game presents to us, but also when it comes to finding new, more optimal routes through completely wild terrains. All this throughout more than 60 missions
Missions vary in difficulty level grant a equal parts progression and challenge for the player. Additionally, many of them establish minimum necessary requirements. How to use a type of vehicle, equip certain tools or include agents in the mission. The function of these agents is to “make shipping easier” for us by giving us small boosts. Such as increased exploration distance, reduced vehicle damage, etc.
Despite the large size of the two environments that make up this game, the environments seem “alive”, “real”.. The large forests of Europe have a high density of vegetation, which poses a challenge when carrying out our expeditions as it forces the player to search for a more optimal route. For example, in the desert, where you have to be careful of areas of rockier terrain or muddy areas. Yet despite the level of detail that both environments present, they have major issues loading terrain textures. These appear blurry until you place the overhead camera on the vehicle.
Vehicles to give and take
With a total of 20 vehicles, Expeditions: a Mudrunner Game offers us a good selection of vehicles to carry out our expeditions. Within these 20, we can subdivide them into 3 different classes: heavy trucks, light scouts and heavy scouts. Each of them offers us different equipment and capacity options to carry out our different missions.
All these vehicles can be customized and modified according to our needs. Beyond the level of customization that the game offers, we can appreciate the level of detail of each vehicle. They have exceptional visual quality. Despite the high level of detail, all vehicles have two issues that I consider serious. The first is undoubtedly the sound. The noise of vehicle engines is completely anecdotal, unrealistic and believable to anyone playing.
But what takes over is fuel consumption. Count on vehicles with ridiculous consumption of around 3/4 liters on average for the lightest vehicles to 7/8 liters for trucks. Given the rugged terrain we face with these vehicles, these consumption levels are very implausible. They’re not even among the most efficient vehicles on the market, for both cars and trucks.
Depending on the shipments we make, We need to equip our vehicle with tools that can get us out of trouble. As is the case with support hooks for the winch or jacks to restore the vehicle in the event of a rollover. The rest of the equipment available is that necessary for the missions, with no useful value for transporting them when playing in “free mode”. The equipment we choose will be decisive in being able to carry out the missions successfully.. If they are damaged during the mission, we can repair them. If we do not have enough spare parts, we will lose the performance of the vehicle, which will force us to be careful during the rest of the trip so as not to have to abandon our adventure.
Different missions, different challenges
Among the more than 60 missions that we have, we can differentiate several types. Such as: environmental exploration and material collection and research. All of them are distributed equally and in the different difficulty levels that the game presents to us. The simplest missions to complete are those consisting of collecting materials. They simply consist of going to a difficult-to-reach point and collecting the necessary item. On the other hand, missions like the investigation require more skill on the part of the player. Normally on these missions we will transport a heavy vehicle with special equipment for the designated mission. Due to the dimensions of the vehicle and the routes normally taken, these missions represent the biggest challenges in the game.
Although the concept of “open world” may seem intimidating at first, it is not even close to what one might imagine. It is a detailed map with no dots or marked questions to navigate through to reach our goal. On these routes it is common to find areas of ascent and descent marked with totems as well as geographical features that we must overcome by delivering materials to build small bridges or remove terrain obstacles to continue our journey.
In conclusion, Expeditions: A Mudrunner game
Expeditions: a Mudrunner game This is the ideal game for fans of the Mudrunner saga, but also for those who want to get started and don’t know if this game is for them. With a complete physical system, a more than correct difficulty curve and a good variety of missions, this opus consolidates itself as the best title in the franchise so far. Despite this, as I mentioned before, aspects such as a very poor audio system regarding vehicle sounds and very unrealistic consumption remain to be refined. Even like this, I invite you to give this saga a chance, which will undoubtedly disappoint you. Do you want to try this new title?
