I’ve been covering the world of video games for more than 15 years, so the first text I wrote about this passion has already been appreciated. However, after so many years, I still see the sector as terribly immature in many ways. Today’s players need to evolve and mature. Games are often compared to movies, and while there are similarities, in many ways moviegoers have a bit of an edge over us.
Today I wanted to talk about an aspect that I find curious and that I think is part of this path to maturity that the sector and the public still have to travel. It is this strange way to stone a game for its ratings, graphics section or other aspects. You know, those games classified as “garbage”, but once you play them, you realize that you were full of bias and they are extremely addictive.
Shitty games are games too, and if you take the bias off, they’re even fun
I don’t know many companies that have developed games for anything other than entertaining people. Well, other than those making gacha-like games, those shouldn’t exist. Let’s see, don’t get me wrong, games are for making money, yes, but the basic scheme is to create something fun to play and experience. After a game, many people work long hours to figure out how to make you happy.
Yet the video game industry is inherently intolerant. If serious technical errors are discovered in the preview of a game, automatically the game is crap, crap, something horrible to play… And then it really doesn’t matter. Even games that don’t run can be fun if you think outside the box and try them.
I have always declared myself an absolute fan of Piranha Bytes games. I already know that Elex, Gothic or Risen are aeons away from an RPG like The Witcher. They’re bad in control, poor in graphics, poor in storytelling… it sucks, but “that’s my shit”. I play them and love them, I can’t quite list the benefits that make me want to play them, but it’s because I spend it like a little child with them. To these add a few. In fact, I tend to be very persistent with games like this that are outside of canon.
Services like Game Pass help eliminate blocking and negative noise
I understand that the way the market is, prices and inflation, people want and need to think carefully about where to spend their Euros. But many of these purchases are influenced by the opinion of the broad masses. Nowadays, it seems like you feel bad if you spend your money on games that don’t meet the standards set by Twitter analysts…”the game sucks because a north korean page gave it a 5“, and things like that are some of the childish arguments that this fauna is generally welcomed.
That’s why I’m such a proponent of Game Pass, not because a multi-billion dollar company is still making money, Microsoft isn’t paying our bills thankfully. I do it because it’s a great opportunity to discover these 6 or 7 medium level games who were stoned. I’ll give another example, Greedfall was an RPG that didn’t get much attention, but which I happily completed thanks to Microsoft’s service and ended up falling in love with it.
Now that you’ve read this tochazo, I’d like to know which games were classified as poisonous but you ended up falling in love with.
