It is not uncommon to read that a studio is satisfied with the launch of its game on Game Pass. And what we know about the procedure to follow is that Microsoft tests the game, reaches an agreement with the studio or publisher and pays an amount that should be sufficient to cover any sales the studio loses by launching their game on the Americans’ subscription service.
This way neither party loses money and both parties gain something. On the one hand, Microsoft gains new games on its service, and on the other, the studio or publisher gains money and visibility that it would not otherwise have.
Game creators happy with deal
Another of the studios that have expressed satisfaction with using the potential of Game Pass is the Aggro Crab Games team, responsible for the game Another Crab’s Treasure, which arrived on the service these days. From Real achievements They had the opportunity to chat with Nick Kaman, current boss of the studio, and Caelan Pollock, the game’s creative director.
For them, the treatment was more than fair, and it helped them grow a lot. So much so that they even recommend it to other studios.
We have development privilege in Seattle, so once we contacted Game Pass, they drove across the 520 bridge and into our office to play the demo. Somehow, the boss fight we showed you was perfectly balanced at the time to really impress you. The rest is history!
This is great for developers because you can get a lot of revenue from your game from day one! This is great for gamers because you can play a lot of games for little money.
They subsequently continued to explain that the Game Pass approach is not for everyone, and that it in no way replaces their sales objective. This is just another option to gain traction and user base.
For most developers, this is one part of a multi-pronged approach, so it is not intended to be a total replacement for gross sales. Some fear that the industry is moving to a place where most games are locked behind a subscription service. If the benefits for developers listing their games on services like this start to diminish, I’ll start to worry too. But for now, the number of games that otherwise wouldn’t have reached critical mass without the boost Game Pass gave them is overwhelming. As far as I’m concerned, the Game Pass era has been a huge blessing so far, for both developers and players.
