The technology experts have taken a closer look at the PlayStation 5 Pro Enhanced material and revealed some initial details.
Some excerpts from the Digital Foundry Direct Weekly via Patreon have revealed that the PlayStation 5 Pro can only reach 60fps in various enhanced games at an extremely low resolution.
Digital Foundry took a look at the games from the PS5 Pro reveal footage and took a close look at the Pro modes.
For example, it was shown that “Alan Wake 2 PS5 Pro Enhanced
In addition, Alan Wake 2 runs on the PS5 Pro at 60fps apparently without ray tracing, while the 30fps option is supposed to offer RT.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is presented with improved image quality through PSSR and comes in at 1440p and 1800p at 60fps. For comparison, this is roughly equivalent to the PS5’s quality mode but at 40fps.
Digital Foundry had little to say about Horizon Forbidden West, saying that the resolution did not look like 4K and that PSSR was probably not used to improve the image quality.
In the case of Hogwarts Legacy, they mentioned the better ray tracing effects, but this also caused image noise in the background. RT shadows could be mixed with SSR, but seem to be an improvement over the base PS5. But they didn’t want to commit to anything too specific.
Gran Turismo 7 apparently offers RT reflections at a quarter resolution of 1080p. GT7 itself offers a lower resolution (1188p) in PS5 Pro enhanced mode and likely uses PSSR to bring it to 4K, with the base game being native 4K without RT reflections. Ray tracing looked better overall in GT7 than in Forza Motorsport, it added.
“Assassin’s Creed Shadows PS5 Pro Enhanced“ also only runs at 864p and 60fps, while Dragon’s Dogma II was only reported to run at 60fps with possible PSSR.
