We’re celebrating the 10th anniversary of this great work of Xbox exclusive remedy.
Surely, like me, you are all very excited for the future arrival of Alan Wake 2. It seems that our beloved author has not yet had enough of the nightmare that the first installment represented, since Remedy delighted us with a trailer in which it looks like Alan is going to struggle again. However, aside from the original Alan Wake, our friend Alan had another adventure that many may have forgotten, but he had something that many of us loved.
Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is kind of a mixed bag. He shares many traits with his older brother, but at the same time the focus shifts to the center in a new enemy Mr. Squeaks. Not at all a direct sequel, nor a pure spin-off. It sits somewhere in the middle, serving more as an expansion of the original adventure, which came in DLC format on Xbox 360.
Mr. Squeaks is a character who appeared in the first game, but he only had a brief role in the adventure. However, here he is fully focused on his “fight” with Alan Wake in an entirely different setting. This Chirridos is a being composed of the whispers and rumors about Alan Wake’s disappearance in the first episode, taking his form as a completely negative and quite menacing version of him. As we say, we will face this Mr. Squeaks in springs of the nightwhich is the framework of Alan’s literary work.
Alan Wake’s American Nightmare plays out much like Alan Wake.since you will have to use your flashlight to discover the “Take Two” (ghostly figures that can do a lot of damage) before shooting them with any firearm you have at hand. However, unlike the original, This episode has a much more arcade style of play.
in this episode Alan will quickly amass a small arsenal weapons to defend themselves. All the usual weapons are present (pistols, machine guns, rifles, etc.), but the use of flare gun is particularly satisfying.
In Night Springs there are also amazing places that lead to some truly exciting gameplay moments. An oil rig, an observatory and an abandoned mine offer situations that will live long in our memory. However, the epic and emotional final showdown with Mr. Squeaks in the theater remains the most brutal moment of the adventure.
Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is still a horror-sounding adventurebut it had a touch more action and shooting than the first game. Mr. Chrridos appeared at every turn, often on television, while causing all sorts of damage to innocent people without any remorse. Using a real actor in the cutscenes made it even more menacing.
“Arcade Mode” This was new to the game. In this mode, the player had to fend off waves of enemieswhich were becoming more and more difficult to remove. The goal was to survive as long as possible. then head to the online leaderboards to earn bragging rights to your peers.
Alan Wake’s American Nightmare may have been quite short (in 5 hours it was over) when it was released in 2012, especially compared to its main opus which however corresponded very well to the style that the people of Remedy wanted to impose. Key to its success was how well-realized Mr. Squeaks was, both as a character and visually in-game. The short but interesting story kept me hooked from start to finish.
Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is available on this wonderful service known as Xbox Game Passso if you haven’t played it yet, I don’t know what you are waiting for.
