I’m Sergio Escanciano, who founds Tenebris Studio together with Arturo Casado and with the support of Natalia Pérez. We are proud to announce that after some long months of porting and maintaining Your computer could be compromised out today on Xbox and Windows PC. This is a big milestone for us as it is our first self-published game and our first console game.
This release arrives one year after the original release on PC and with a new final chapter for the game: the scarlet ratwhich I think is our best version of the game mechanics and story.
From a technical perspective, we’ve worked hard to ensure the game runs at a solid 60 FPS on all Xbox consoles, including full 4K resolution support starting with Xbox One X.
Since we’re a studio with only two core members, we’ve both worked on most game development-related tasks at some point. Some of my most important contributions have been game design and script writing. In this article, I will therefore address the tone of the game and the combination of storyline and game mechanics to create an experience that takes the player through a crescendo of emotions to the end of the story.
Your computer could be compromised is a game about wrong decisions and the inevitable weight of their consequences. Accepting them is not always an option as there are some things that cannot be undone.
Game development isn’t our main job right now, and working on the game part-time has meant the process has taken several years, much longer than we initially anticipated. The feeling of getting lost, staying consistent with the past and facing the unexpected while trying to move forward are the pillars on which I wrote the screenplay. I strongly believe that players will be able to immerse themselves in the story and get carried away by the game’s events and puzzles.
In terms of art, the game takes cues from the “Giallo” film genre (murder/mystery/fiction) as the main source of inspiration, with heavy use of vivid colors and a soundtrack full of classic synthesizers and drum sounds.
Locked in a room after a strange car accident, the player faces a series of tasks and puzzles created by his captors, directly related to the events and the development of the story. Accompanying these moments, quieter, more narrative sequences help the player always be in tune with the emotions the protagonist is feeling throughout the game.
In the course of the story, the everyday situations at the beginning become more and more bizarre and dreamlike.
The game’s puzzles cover different spectrums of the genre, from logical and standalone puzzles to those that evolve in subsequent chapters or require the use of an object in the player’s inventory. We put a lot of thought into the difficulty level of the game and while I think there are some puzzles that really require the player to exercise their deductive skills, we tried to make sure that everyone enjoyed themselves with a fair difficulty curve and difficulty setting Players feel comfortable with the game Special and totally optional hint mode that can give a hint to solve the puzzles.
In terms of accessibility, the game features a color blind mode to allow more players to fully enjoy the game. Not only does this mode change specific colors for the main types of color blindness, but it also adjusts some multi-color puzzles for balance with the standard game. In case you are interested in this aspect of the game, I wrote an article about it in our Itch.io page.
I want to highlight the new content included in the game: the scarlet rat.. Accessible from the main menu, this final and independent chapter takes place in a new location not seen in the main game: the bar in the middle of the desert “La Rata Escarlata”.
This chapter explores the origins of the game’s history and contains the most elaborate puzzles. While it can be played standalone at any time, I recommend players play it after the main game to fully understand what’s happening in this strange new location. Check out the trailer [email protected] Youtube channel for a look at the new content.
And that’s it! Thank you for reading the article. Before we wrap up, we’d like to say thank you [email protected] We thank the team and their colleagues for their support during development.
Your computer could be compromised is a classic single player experience, so please sit back and take your time to enjoy the game. We left part of our life in it.
