Studio Dimfrost a new study created by university students in 2017, they release their second game. Bramble: King of the Mountain It is a simple and beautiful game. An immersive experience that will take us back to our earliest childhood. We’re bringing this Xbox Series X analysis to you so you can put on your shoes, sit on the couch, and let’s open up this story together.
Bramble: The Mountain King, a storytelling video game
Bramble: King of the Mountain is an adventure set in a world inspired by Nordic fables. The tone of the storybook is truly fantastic and immerses you in the story making you feel like you are turning the pages of a traditional tale.
We will control Ollie, a boy with his sister is transported to the magical land of Brumble. There, after taking advantage of his strange and friendly beings, he discovers that they are not all equally friendly and a huge troll kidnaps his sister as he narrowly escapes. From then on, he will be forced to move around in this particular enchanted world full of beings. Gnomes, fairies, trolls, toads, giants and a few ruthless creatures, as well as sorcery, will inhabit its forests.
The game is configured as a walking simulator, with parts of platforms and with some moments of “combat” action against enemies or infiltration. We will also have a small exploration and action component, as well as small games with other characters. nicer. It may remind us of games like little nightmares, Limbo oh Inside in its development and mechanics, and clearly they seem to be an inspiration for this title. But, above all, it is a game to delight us with its colorful and beautiful graphic section and to have fun and transport us to this fantastic world.
graphic precision
The re-creation of the environment and scenarios typical of the stories is truly remarkable work. Forests, mountains, caves and hundreds of leaves fluttering in the wind. At the same time we will enjoy amazing light effects that create an almost pictorial environment. Moreover, the particles of pollen and dust, intersecting with the rays of light, generate memorable scenes that we can continue to contemplate. Added to this is the enormous size and excellent design of some of these fantastic characters. All this at 60fps, quite stable, and with 4K resolution. which gives the game an extraordinary look and will leave you speechless.
The protagonists are those who appear the poorest graphically, but the appearance of “dolls” seems intentional and in order to make us feel even more in a story embodied in the form of a video game. Their animations are also a little more artificial than those of the rest of the beings, which move much more smoothly, almost giving them the appearance of puppets at the mercy of many huge beings that populate this magical world.
The art section has been extensively worked on and it shows in the final result of the game. Although it is an indie title, in this section it surpasses some higher budget games both in graphics and in the attention to detail.
It lands in 3d action, with more classic 2d touches for some platforming moments.
sound and playability
The soundscape is really magnificent too, accompanied by cries and the sounds of the forest. A narrator’s voiceover particularly stands out (in English, yes), adding more force to the storybook tone of the game. The music is orchestral and serves to highlight moments of tension, clashes, stealth… Although at times we will have sung songs, closely associated with Nordic folklore which give it a very interesting transcendent air.
Gameplay, we are talking about a very simple game, in which we use few buttons. SO, the ease of handling the game is almost unbeatable. In addition, the controls respond very well to jumps, catches… Of course, There are no difficulty levels, only the one that comes by default, which is equivalent to normal difficulty, which, with its short duration, can make us finish in just a few days. In the middle of the game there is a little more challenge, with tighter jumps and slightly more elaborate puzzles.
We are missing an option to disable vibrations, which although it is very well implemented, there are still players who prefer to disable it by default. Another slightly negative point are the loading times, which are a bit long for an independent game and sometimes frequent.
Conclusions Bramble: King of the Mountain
Bramble the King of the Mountain is a nice game that takes us back to our childhood. It even has the dark component that a lot of traditional tales have. Since the appearance of certain terrifying beings who play the game, despite a fairy tale tone, not recommended for young children. And it is that it has a component of terror and blood, much more present in the second part of the game.
The game is inspired by the already classic Limbo, inside oh little nightmaresbut it takes its base, to give it its own style in 3d environments and give it a nice story behind it.
Its short duration can be a setback for many (3-4h), but its not excessively high price and its sublime graphics, combined with the good general level and a beautiful story, make it a must for lovers of stories and legends . .
