Even though 2023 was a dream year, 2024 doesn’t seem like a bad start at all. In the absence of many other titles that remain to be announced, I believe that the one that concerns us today is, at the very least, one of those that is intended to be obligatory. Even more so given its multiplayer nature. If to all this we add the signature of Joseph Fares, the cocktail is almost unbeatable. We are talking, as you may have read in the title, about the remake of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons.
It was the first game from the person responsible for (among others) It takes two o An exit. The original title is on Game Pass, but if you haven’t tried it yet, I think this is the perfect opportunity to jump straight into its remake. At the time it was a fantastic proposition, with great puzzles and setting, which is why this facelift was great for it. But let’s look at it in detail.
An exceptional facelift
Given the characteristics of the original game, I think the decisions that have been made since The avant-garde were the most appropriate. Don’t expect a total remake in the style of the last resident Evil, since a mainly visual update was chosen. The handling of the characters has been touched up, although the sensations are very similar, which I will talk about later.
At the graphic level, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons she is beautiful at all times, leaving the feeling that now is as it should have been in its time. Even if some animations are those that “creak” a little more, the work in terms of design and finishing represents a tremendous leap forward. If you played the original, you will know that in this adventure we travel through several rooms and biomes, all in a fantasy medieval setting. This also means the presence of other creatures that I won’t mention here, but which look as beautiful as the rest of the title.
The path of these brothers is strewn with rivers, weeds, various buildings and other dangers. I would particularly highlight certain elements, like water or lighting, which exponentially increase the quality of the experience. The textures of each surface also denote the effort and good work of those responsible, who seem to have not forgotten any detail. Without being a AAA title, I think I can say that We are faced with one of the best remakes of recent yearsat least on that A-AA scale.
The Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons remake is still a lot of fun
The most notable feature of this title is the same brand that it has. It takes two: your cooperative. With his first title, Josef Fares already wanted to implement gameplay that would go in this direction, but leaving the possibility of enjoying the adventure alone. In this case, please know that I played the entire game this way and enjoyed it. In addition, this represents an additional point of difficulty, but without pushing it to the extreme.
I’m not going to reveal anything about its co-op that no one knows about Fares games, but if it really grabs your attention and you don’t have anyone to play it with, I can tell you it won’t be a problem. At first it can be a little confusing, but handling the two brothers with the two analogs and triggers is quite smooth. It won’t take you long to take full control, and the good news is that most of the puzzles leave enough room to not overwhelm the player. There is a good balance in terms of dynamism. However, at this point little is known, also considering the brief duration of the title.
As an anecdote, I had to reload a checkpoint several times because, by moving the two characters through two areas of the same area, the camera perspective changed without any feedback. This also means that a sort of invisible wall does not allow characters to return to the area before the puzzle. And therefore, it is impossible to continue experimenting to complete the aforementioned puzzle. This won’t ruin the game, but it’s something to keep in mind. This, yes, It’s just as fun as the original 2013 game was.
A story that continues to move
This new remake has kept alive a moving story which, although brief, should please any self-respecting user. With the goal of saving their father from a serious illness, the brothers who play in this title must undertake a true odyssey to find the cure in a mysterious lost tree.
As I mentioned before, there are a multitude of environments to explore, from caves and catacombs to forests and snowy areas. Without going into spoilers for those who haven’t played the original title, everything is surrounded by an aura of fantasy that suits this medieval setting perfectly. And along the way, the two brothers will encounter all kinds of beings. Some will torpedo their way, others will help them, and there will also be those who put their lives in danger.
In background, They transcend messages such as family unity and support, loss and joy, the beauty of small details, fear, love and disappointment.… Since then, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons It’s not flat in that sense. Quite the contrary.
The sound section also improves
Review the improvements this has undergone Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, it is impossible to close this analysis without highlighting the sound part. It has improved significantly and is visible in every detail, as are its visual improvements.
The entire soundtrack was re-recorded., renewing its melodies to further elevate the user experience. But other than that, I particularly like the sound effects. The rain, the mechanics of certain puzzles, the breaking of certain structures, or even the conversations of the characters themselves. The latter is a language invented by its own developers, which on the other hand gives greater value to body animations. For the most part, they comply satisfactorily, although personally I loved the way the characters react when moving across icy surfaces.
Generally speaking, If I love this adventure so much, it is not only because of what it says, but also because of the way in which it does it.. The music chosen at each moment, the voices, the sound effects… there is a particular care taken there, and it shows. Clearly, these resources were used with great skill.
505 Games brings us a brilliantly renewed Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
I had a great time with this one. Brothers: Remake of the story of two sons, with its captivating story and very fun gameplay. Although I highly recommend enjoying it with company, it is also a fantastic experience alone. Plus, it exudes beauty in every pixel. Its settings and characters have undergone a facelift which makes it a must-see for 2024retaining its joyful but also sometimes very dark touches.
The puzzles are still fun to solve and the sound has been completely improved. Despite a few “buts” in its gameplay, I can only recommend this experience renewed by Avantgarden. And what’s more, at a reduced price!
