Analysis of Gori: Cuddly Carnage

There have always been strange games, video games whose theme, story, characters or mechanics made no sense. Gori: Cuddly Carnage is a clear example of this. The title developed by Angry Demon Studio and published by Wired Productions transports us to a colorful world, inhabited by adorable stuffed animals… with which we can create authentic massacres of blood and viscera. All this while we control a cat that travels with a talking skateboard. With this disrupted principle we are faced with a fun and frenetic action game with which you will have very fun times. A world destroyed by… toys?

The story of Gori: Cuddly Carnage is totally bizarre. The action takes place in an alternate future in which humans have been exterminated by toys and stuffed animals transformed into zombies. All because of an evil multinational corporation. From there, we will put ourselves at the controls of Gori, a strange prototype of a toy in the shape of a cat, and of FRANK, a sort of talking skateboard. With this strange duo, we must try to save the world. Even though the story takes a back seat due to its fun and fast-paced gameplay, it is followed with interest and is very entertaining thanks to its humor. The conversations between the characters are full of dark humor, reminiscent of that used in the Borderlands saga or in games like Conker’s Bad Fur Day.

Platforms, rails and blood

One of the most notable aspects of Gori: Cuddly Carnage is the playable portion. The gameplay of the title is as if Tony Hawk and Devil May Cry had a child. We control Gori with his skateboard FRANK, in a series of levels full of platforms, rails and enemies. All this with an exquisite mastery of our character. Moving between different platforms, grinding and running on platforms will be a pleasure, because the control is very smooth and fluid. Note that the scenarios are linear and closed, and do not encourage much exploration, even if there are some hidden secrets. These hidden objects could be unlockable outfits for our protagonist or money to learn new moves.

Another aspect that is not lacking in this title is the combat. These will be very numerous (too many) and we will perform very spectacular movements and executions. The fights are focused on hack’n slash, so they will be very fast and dizzying, based on the use of combos, without having time to plan anything. The combat is a lot of fun, although I may have missed a bit more movement and enemy variety.

. We also have a rating system which reminded me a lot of Dante’s saga, and which will encourage us to improve. The video game has final enemies at the end of each level, which we think is the best part of the title, and they are very fun and spectacular.

If we talk about the graphics and artistic section of the video game, it leaves very good feelings. It uses a cel shading style to show very colorful and striking settings, characters and especially blood. It is true that the graphics of Gori: Cuddly Carnage have been somewhat divisive. Some users hate it and others love it. Personally, I fall somewhere in between. It seems to me that it uses a striking artistic section, but it is not a graphic marvel either. The game has two graphics modes, a performance mode that runs at 120fps and a quality mode at 4K and 60fps.

For me this is generally not a negative point, but in this case, as in High On Life, I think it harms the video game, since a Spanish dubbing would have been wonderful to enjoy the humor 100% and jokes from the games. that the game highlights.
