Lost Judgment takes us back to Kamurocho with Masaharu Kaito in an expansion centered around the life of Yagami’s misfortune companion
It’s always cause for celebration when Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio brings us new content in any form. This time, the Japanese studio presents us Judgment Lost: The Kaito Files, a standalone extension to the latest installment in the Judgment saga. Focused on Masaharu Kaitothe incombustible companion of the fatigues of Yagami-san, our favorite detective from Kamurocho. This is the first publication of the study without the signature of its charismatic creator, Toshihiro Nagoshiwho left Ruy Ga Gotoku at the end of last year.
Judgment Lost: The Kaito Files brings us back to Kamurocho with a new adventure that revolves around a case related to Kaito’s past. With Yagami out of the picture, good old Kaito will take the reins of the Yagami Detective Agency to solve this mysterious request.
A wealthy businessman offers Kaito a large sum of money to find his missing wife, or rather, left for dead. A case that gets complicated when the person in question has a close relationship with Kaito in the past. Without getting into more spoilers than the pretense of the game itself, we have a new story ahead of us that covered ten hours of pure lost judgment: intrigue, plot twists and many cakes
Kamurocho, my home
Unlike Lost Judgment, where much of its story took place in Yokohama, The Kaito Files will once again have us kicking the busy streets of Kamurocho. Which has changed little both visually and playable, but still want to revisit again. How could it be otherwise, we will once again have a good time in the arcades of Club Sega, stock up on supplies in Poppo supermarkets, taste the appetizing dishes of the many restaurants in the neighborhood or even mingle with neighborhood thugs.
Where Lost Judgment: The Kaito Files presents novelties is in the combat system. We will have two new fighting styles which perfectly match Kaito: Brawler and Colossal. the The brawler style will allow us to pounce on our rivals with powerful punches and kicks, ideal for almost all types of enemies. We will also be able to perform more effective counters against lower level rivals and perform a good number of new EX moves with which to finish off our enemies.
Colossal style focuses on close combat and grapplingemphasizing more the qualities of Kaito, who sometimes appears as a true fighter of Press the latch

A new way to solve mysteries
As for the type of missions, we will not find much difference compared to the original game: search for evidence in certain scenes, stealth missions or chases in the streets of Kamurocho. Although we will have new mechanics when investigating mysteries, as Kaito will be able to use his excellent senses of hearing and smell. Something that doesn’t revolutionize the game too much either, but it’s a little more entertaining than just looking for clues with the naked eye.
You have to say, both plot-wise and story-wise, which Lost Judgment: The Kaito Files does not meeta, although the absence of Yagami weighs heavy. And that Kaito is a character with enough depth and that the story that revolves around him is interesting and well thought out. But the very nature of our protagonist, who normally uses his muscles before his brain, means that the weight of many scenes is no match for the main game. Perhaps this is due to the lack of counterpoint that Kaito offers Yagami as the protagonists of the saga. Although some secondary characters such as Hagashi, and others that we will meet in the plot, help Kaito in his first independent adventure.
Overall, if you liked Lost Judgment, I’m sure you’ll like this expansion as well. You’ll find a new story that spans four chapters and yes, it doesn’t have as much side content. Although the price is not exactly low, the content quality is very good, as usual with Ryu Ga Gotoku.
