Monster Hunter Rise is a port of the title released on Nintendo Switch in 2021.
Monster Hunter Rise launched on the Nintendo Switch in March 2021 to critical acclaim. A little less than two years later, it is now available on Xbox Game Pass for consoles, the cloud and the PC. This build is a port created from the original Steam port released exactly one year ago. Its precursor, Monster Hunter World, was on Game Pass for a long time, so now it’s the turn of this new opus.
Track, Hunt, Craft and Repeat.
The game takes place in the difference with Kamura, inspired by the ninjas of Japan, where a calamity occurs. From here it’s up to you the huntersolve village problems perform quests, collect important materials, killing all sorts of terrifying beasts and saving the day. More advanced features, such as forge/upgrade weapons and armor and craftthey may take a bit longer, but other than that there are enough tutorials to help anyone new. This includes a training area, where you can also learn the new mechanics specific to this installment.
For starters, the general Monster Hunter process is to choose a class weapon (from the most classic like sword and shield to light bow), choose a mission, hunt and shoot down your target, craft something and start again against bigger monsters, with your upgraded weapons and armor. The class you choose will also influence how you approach battles and how they play out. In general, in each hunt you will have to locate a specific beast and give everything until you defeat her. Once you get the hang of it, it can become an addictive cycle.
For players replaying Monster Hunter, Monster Hunter Rise returns to the routine that everyone knows and loves. Additionally, it adds new mechanics such as the ability of the Wyvern Ridein which you will temporarily tame wild monsters fight other monsters. We will have new companions, like the palamute canine companion, which makes it much easier to navigate the maps and can also join the battle. And then there are the “wirebugs“, a new feature that allows the player to traverse all levels of terrain and perform combat airstrikes, as well as “Silk Link Attackwhich is basically power moves paired with your weapon of choice. The “Change Skillsadds another layer to combat, allowing you to swap out moves within your weapon class to better suit your playstyle. As if that weren’t enough, we’ve also scenarios where your strength is threatened and you and your friends must defend it from monster attacks with cannons, bombs and whatever else you have at hand.
Improved Switch port on Xbox Series
If you’ve ever played Monster Hunter Rise on Switch or PC, no doubt You might be wondering if this latest version for Xbox is worth it, and it depends on your interest in this new episode. Based on performance and resolution only, Rise is a better console experience on next-gen platforms. In Xbox series Xplayers can take advantage of the options of 4K at 60 fps or 1080p at 120 fps. It’s a big step up from the original Switch version which ran at just 30fps and lower resolution, but don’t expect amazing visuals even with Xbox graphics mode as it’s still basically a port of the Switch title. Additional filters are also available, such as film grain effects.
One of the main drawbacks is the lack of support for cross-play and cross-progression. Xbox users will be matched exclusively with other Microsoft users (Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Windows PCs). Unfortunately, veteran hunters will not be able to team up with their companions on PlayStation, Nintendo or even the Steam platform, so there will be no cross-platform search. What’s worse is that Capcom has no system for players to transfer their progress and save games from these previous versions. So, if you’re coming from Switch, you’ll have to start from scratch.
conclusion
Monster Hunter Rise is another great installment in Capcom’s action role-playing game series.. It brings in enough new ideas and mechanics to keep a series as old as this feeling fresh. What’s worse is that there are no cross-progression features to transfer save files from Switch and Steam. As we have already mentioned, crossplay is also limited, which means you can’t team up with your friends from rival platforms. Still, it’s a great game, and if you’ve ever wondered why this series is so popular with gamers, Rise is a great entry point into the Monster Hunter franchise. Plus, it’s available on Xbox Game Pass for everyone.
