Join Kay Vess on a new adventure with the legendary Lando Calrissian.
Star Wars Outlaws' first paid expansion now available as Wild Card. Ubisoft also promoted the title's latest 1.4 update released alongside it, promising to improve the experience.
Star Wars Outlaws was a controversial game when it released in late August. Despite everything it did well, like its well-designed open world and story, flaws like forced stealth sections and underdeveloped combat mechanics undermined its potential. Developer Massive Entertainment has been working hard to fix these flaws with a number of tweaks and new gameplay features that will be introduced throughout the year. But amid the huge improvements made to the game last November, the release of this first Wild Card expansion seemed to go unnoticed.
Wild Card is an expansion in which the protagonist, Kay Vess, crosses paths with Lando Calrissian himself. Vess was hired by an Imperial governor to infiltrate an illegal tournament aboard an elusive ship called Morenia. The goal is to win the tournament's grand prize, a resourceful moon. To obtain Kay's cooperation, the governor blackmails her with a forgery which presents the mythical scoundrel as an imperial double agent. It's a simple premise, but it oozes Star Wars from every pore.
To play Wild Card, players must have completed “The Gunsmith” and “The High Roller” missions.. Both take place early in Outlaws' 30+ hour runtime. However, those starting to save for the first time should know that they will have to overcome certain obstacles before meeting Calrissian. However, once things get going, the journey is quite interesting. On the one hand, we got a pretty substantial update. In an age where the term “expansion” is used quite loosely, I expected an hour, maybe 90 minutes of play. However, it took me 5 hours to clear the Wild Card.
Without going into spoilers, the new characters are very interesting and the story has a good pace. The main mission begins with obtaining information about the underworld from the local canteen.. What little information is found leads Kay on an exciting space chase to obtain the exact location of the secret tournament. During these hours of gameplay we will have chases, escapes and infiltration missions, giving the whole thing a lot of variety, giving the feeling of being something authentically Star Wars.
What makes these new missions a lot more fun than some of the main storylines is how seamlessly they fit in with the new gameplay changes.. While I prefer Star Wars Outlaws' stealth mode, players are at no point required to use it to progress. Taking photos is always an option and it's not that difficult to stay hidden. The ability to use enemy weapons in more locations, new weapon balance, and improved AI also help make the game better than what we saw at launch.
In addition to the main mission, there is a new Expert Mission in which Vess unknowingly helps Lando and the Rebel forces in a series of missions. This is a good addition, knowing Lando's desire for redemption after the events of The Empire Strikes Back.. With its two quest chains, Wild Card adds new costumes, ship skins, new battles, spaceship maneuvers and Sabacc skills to learn. Obtaining all the new features included in the DLC will require more play time after completing the main story missions.
The Wild Card expansion is a very interesting addition for those who enjoyed Star Wars Outlaws and of course for fans of the saga. Wild Card is also a good sign of what's to come in the next planned expansion, A Pirate's Fortune.what we are looking forward to.
