The Bridge Curse 2: Extrication arrived on consoles this October 24, 2024. After its launch a little over a year ago on Asian lands and its subsequent arrival in the West in May of that same year via Steamthe studio’s horror proposal SOFTSTAR arrives for the first time on consoles. From the hand of PQube as editorthis seems to be the big gamble independent of the kind. Will it live up to expectations? Will the Taiwanese team surprise in a genre that has had one of its best years? Let’s find out.
The arrival in force of Taiwanese terror
Before we get into what it is The Bridge Curse 2: ExtricationI would like to delve a little deeper into its context. This is a game made by a small team based in Taiwan, with a large emphasis on that culture in its setting. However, far from the other proposals, here they decided to take another path: urban legends. And this title is based on a classic urban legend from the Asian country, set inside a university. And in fact, this story is the strong point of this title.
With four main characters, it all begins when Sue Lian, a journalist, arrives at a university to study the reality behind certain rumors, and respond to the request for a mysterious letter she received. In pursuit of exclusivity, we delve deeper and deeper into terror and the paranormal, where the influence of Taiwanese culture is much more noticeable. The only drawback in this sense is the length of its story, only a few hours. Something that, on the other hand, also condenses its content much better.
The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication no breath
In the previous point, we talked about how the story is the strong point of The Bridge Curse 2: Extrication. However, I lied a bit, since this point is shared with its stealth mechanic. It’s clear that the SOFTSTAR team wanted the game to be very focused on making us go unnoticed, because that’s the most accomplished. Although with sometimes somewhat predictable patterns, each enemy will be very attentive to our movements and noises, which exponentially increases the feeling of tension. In fact, the stealth mechanics are so well implemented that, despite the distance, they are reminiscent Extraterrestrial isolationsince enemies sometimes watch us too well.
Playable, in other aspects, it is true that the title is not particularly remarkable. It’s a walking simulatorwithout the possibility of being able to defend ourselves and having to go from point A to point B, almost completing our errands. The story is interesting, the collectibles are plentiful, and the setting is fantastic, especially the “ghosts”, but in the rest of the game depth is conspicuous by its absence. The basics are there, they need to be polished.
Superb setting with somewhat rough graphics
As we hinted in the previous section, a very favorable point of this title is its setting and how, between it and the stealth mechanics, it manages to generate a tension that will appeal to both new players and fans of the horror genre. But there is something we haven’t emphasized enough. The sound section of The Bridge Curse 2: Extrication It’s excellent, especially for a study independent. The soundtrack and sound effects are of a high standard. But the dubbing is particularly remarkable, at least in Chinese. Language which, on the other hand, is the original of the title.
On the other hand, even if the decor is very successful, the modeling cannot say the same. Although creative in many cases, the models of the “ghosts” and characters are not particularly good. The environment has some very interesting and well-realized detail, but it’s also generally weak. However, the worst thing you can say about a title independent
Ultimately, The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication…
In short, The Bridge Curse 2: Extrication This is a title with great potential. A well-constructed story, despite the bases of its proposal, with a short but sufficient duration, a very well-made setting and an impeccable sound section, make the title the one covered among the independent proposals of the genre in this year 2024.
However, all is not rosy. HAS The Bridge Curse 2: Extrication You can see the seams as soon as you look further. It’s a stuffed animal with an amazing idea and it’s obviously made with love, but you can see the thread stitches and how some of the cotton comes out. A pleasant surprise nonetheless. Finally and as always, if you want to know more about the games and what’s new, we’re waiting for you here in the Xbox Space.
