Ubisoft Mainz, the studio behind the Anno franchise, has shared some details about the development of Anno 117: Pax Romana, the upcoming city-building strategy game. Although it was announced earlier this year, not much has been shared about the game so far.

In a blog update, the study found that has made great strides in game developmentincluding creating more realistic islands and terrains. According to the study, the islands and trees were recently overhauled and the rock textures were improved. In fact, the study claims that the islands are so attractive that “Would you like to go there on vacation“.

The game has improved controller support

Additionally, the studio worked on creating non-playable characters (NPCs) and a more complex diplomatic system. This means that players will no longer be able to simply seize any island they want, but will have to negotiate and protect their trade routes. Ubisoft has also added a new set of feedback units, including people and animals, which will allow players to interact more realistically with the game world.

The lives of citizens still has been a major aspect of the Anno franchise, and Anno 117: Pax Romana is no different. The studio has been working on creating a motion capture system that will allow players to see their citizens living and working in the game. Additionally, they have made great strides in controller support, which will allow players to enjoy the game on different platforms without negatively affecting others.

Still planned for 2025

As an “early Christmas present,” the studio also shared some early screenshots of the game. The images show the provinces of Lazio and Albion, which players will be able to populate in the full game. Lazio is described as a land in the heart of the Roman Empire, with “wide open spaces, sandy beaches, lavender fields and cliffs from which one can stand and watch the sunset of the sun.” Albion, on the other hand, is described as a land unfamiliar to the Roman legions, with “rocky landscapes with high cliffs and mountains, swampy areas, fog and rain.”

Ubisoft also confirmed that Anno 117: Pax Romana will release day one on Steam, Ubisoft Connect, Epic Games Store, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. The game is scheduled for release in 2025.

Finally, the latest installment in the franchise, Anno 1800, is also about to receive its final content pack. The DLC, called End of an Era, will arrive on December 5 as a standalone purchase and as part of Cosmetic Bundle #2.
