Where Long Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition is available for download on February 6th and takes players into a dark world of the Three Kingdoms, which is haunted by demons. The Complete Edition includes all new weapon types, divine beasts, bosses, story chapters and end-game content included in the three DLC packs and the collaboration DLCs.
However, it’s the three new weapon types – Cestus, Longsword and Whip – that really flex the game’s muscles, offering entirely new ways to play the game as you fight for every breath.
Here’s a breakdown of how to use each new weapon type…
Breast
Time to defeat demons with your bare hands! Aggressive attacks allow you to quickly combine punches and kicks and prepare to repel at any time due to the speed of the animations. Be careful, however, as the lack of range can be a problem against certain enemies. Therefore, combine Cestus with spells like Fireballs to have the best of both worlds.
While Cestus is equipped, you can actually increase your Spirit by up to three levels, with each level granting certain positive effects:
- Level 1: Increases attack damage dealt to enemies
- Level 2: Reduces the consumption of magic spirit for martial arts and sorcery
- Level 3: Reduces damage taken from enemy attacks
To top it all off, when you fight in high spirits, using martial arts, spirit attacks, or fatal blows will actually give you a positive effect that increases the amount of spirit you receive. Performing a spirit attack will consume your current level’s excess spirit. You also lose any Spirit gained at level 3 if you switch to a weapon other than Cestus.
Master’s Tip: Learn to use the different mental levels when fighting Cestus. Depending on the enemy, use the different positive effects in battle accordingly.
Longsword
The longsword is a great weapon because it can charge before attacking. That’s right, this extended blade actually allows you to charge and gather energy by holding down either X or Y to perform normal attacks or spirit attacks. The longer you hold the button, the more powerful the charged attack becomes, with each button triggering two attack phases. With a longer accumulation period that allows for a more powerful attack with different animations and audio cues to help you identify whether you are using a Phase 1 or Phase 2 attack.
Building power immediately after spirit attacks, martial arts, or successful defenses shortens the time it takes to build power. If you move while gathering energy, you can even quickly dodge in that direction. It’s even possible to block enemy attacks at the start of the dodge sequence, and if you do so successfully, your energy level will immediately be boosted to maximum level. This allows you to launch a strong counterattack while breaking the enemy’s posture.
Master’s Tip: Learn when to charge your sword with your Spirit Attack (Y button) – even mid-combo sequence – so you can either land a powerful blow or move away mid-attack to get your to repel the last attack and attack immediately.
whip
If you’re trying out the whip for the first time, be aware that this weapon has the highest risk/reward factor of any item Where long. You should first build up your spirit meter as much as possible before taking on the deadlier demons. However, once you’re ready to get started, activate Frenzy Mode by pressing the Y button while guarding. Here’s the reward: When you use your whip attacks in Frenzy Mode, combine the whip with martial arts and spells to overwhelm your opponents with a series of strikes. This combination of attacks makes the whip one of the best (and most fun) long-range weapons in the game for taking down hordes of monsters. If you successfully block an attack, you even deal damage to surrounding enemies.
But here comes the risk. In Frenzy Mode, your attacks are stronger, but you cannot recover Spirit and each of your attacks will also consume Spirit. Additionally, Frenzy Mode is automatically disabled when you stagger, such as when you suffer a status effect or mental ailment, leaving you vulnerable to major damage, potentially even resulting in your death.
Master’s Tip: When using Frenzy Mode and willpower is low, switch to another weapon by blocking the counterattack (RB + B). This will allow you to get to your secondary weapon smoothly while also keeping you distracted. And while this will take you out of Frenzy mode since you’re now using a different weapon, it also gives you the opportunity to quickly build up Spirit again before switching back to the whip and going into Frenzy again.
