And yes, that was something we could assume Blizzard wasn’t going to live up to the expectations set when Overwatch 2 launched. One of the main premises of the co-op multiplayer sequel was that in this second installment, it would have a sort of fashion campaign. Well, that won’t happen.
In live stream on the Overwatch YouTuber channel, it was announced that the cooperative PvE mode that would expand the game’s narrative would not be a reality. Aaron Keller himself, Game Director, said they weren’t able to pull off a good experience for what the campaign would be, so they decided to cancel development and focus on the game. as a service.
The team has created a ton of amazing content, so there are some amazing quests that are really exciting, there are new enemies that are really fun to fight, and some really cool and ridiculous hero skills.
But unfortunately, the effort required to put all of this together into a Blizzard-quality experience that we can send to you is enormous, and there really is no end in sight, or a specific end date that we can throw at.
Farewell forever to the Overwatch campaign mode
The truth is that it is a disappointment. There are no more words to describe Blizzard’s work with Overwatch 2. The community only loved this sequel because it’s a game exactly like its predecessor, so the issues and complications are exactly the same. This way, and going forward, players only have the multiplayer experience, which degrades and doesn’t seem to straighten out.
And so, we are left with another difficult choice. Do we continue to put all this effort into PvE, hoping we can land in the future, or do we stick to this set of values that we’ve aligned ourselves with and focus on live play and focus about serving you all?
Overwatch 2 is already facing nearly a year since release, and the findings are intriguing. You might think it’s a great video game, but the developers don’t seem to have a vision for the future beyond creating exciting new experiences. The intention, perhaps, is to sell the most Battle Passes in a free game and retire when things don’t stop.
However, in the future, instead of making one big PvE release, and instead of putting all of our efforts into these singular releases, we plan to make co-op play and co-op experiences part of our live roadmap, so we want you to be able to experience it more often and with more variety than we originally announced
