Had … would have … Electronic Arts could actually have had Call of Duty and World of Warcraft, but declined.
The former Chief Creative Officer from Electronic Arts (EA), Bing Gordon, has revealed in a podcast that EA had the opportunity to acquire Blizzard Entertainment before Activision did this in 2008.
However, EA rejected, which led to Activision Blizzard and thus successful franchises such as Call of Duty and World of Warcraft. Gordon praised the then Activision CEO Robert Kotick for his foresight and the ability to keep creative talents in the company in the long term.
Kotick also mentioned that there were several discussions about a merger between EA and Activision Blizzard, which, however, never came about. Activision Blizzard now belongs to Microsoft.
