As the meme goes, the real treasure is the friends you make along the way. This is even more true if you plan on mining for gold and valuable gems, as you will have more hands and backpacks to pull out the loot.
On the second anniversary of Cave Digger 2: Dig harder, our latest VR game, we wanted to make the mines accessible to everyone. So we started working on a flat-screen and console version of Cave Digger 2.
For those of you who have never heard of Cave Digger 2, welcome to an action-adventure game where you can explore ancient mines, natural formations and ancient ruins in wild valleys.
What are you doing? You start out as a gold prospector with only a pickaxe. You dig for loot and trade the mined valuables for new gadgets, areas, unusual fashion and more. While trying not to die at the hands of the local fauna.
Compared to the first game in the series, we wanted players to team up with friends or other members of the community and adventure together. And so we did it and added co-op multiplayer Cave Digger 2: Dig harder.
However, VR gamers often have friends who don’t own a headset or don’t like playing in virtual reality, even if a game seems interesting. So we decided to build a bridge between the two worlds Cave Digger 2: Dig harder
The goal was ambitious: multiplayer co-op and crossplay on all consoles and all systems, in VR or not VR. Our team faced an interesting challenge. Not only did we have to accommodate each platform’s own multiplayer requirements, but we also had to make sure everything worked between the three VR versions and between the four flat versions. This took up a lot of resources from both our programming and testing teams.
It was hard, but since you’re reading this article, it worked! Now bring a pickaxe, grab some dynamite, ping your friends and head into the caves to uncover the secrets they hold!
