This is news that might raise some eyebrows. This Thursday, Adam Kiciński gave an interview to the Polish media Rzeczpospolita. Acquired by GamingBolt during trading, the president of CD Projekt RED spoke about the studio’s upcoming projects. And it’s just about getting started two great new games in the worlds of The witcher and Cyberpunk.
We are currently focused on our two franchises. Both have enormous potential. One of our strategic goals is therefore to work in parallel on AAA projects that belong to our IPs. We are planning that for next year.
Two AAAs at the same time, an ambition that at first glance seems like a rug that we don’t hope the developer will stumble on.
First projects delayed
At the side of The witcher, the information is not surprising. CD Projekt RED had already shared its intention last year to create a new major episode for its saga of fantastic adventures. Back then, the studio wanted to start development right after the release of Cyberpunk 2077. Three teams then had to share the work. The first was to continue its momentum by offering additional content for the futuristic FPS. The second would have been responsible for developing his multiplayer mode. After all, one last was the starting signal for the new game in the Witcher universe.
But since then, the studio’s schedule has turned dramatically on its head. The latest addition to the Polish company arrived in a condition that required too much work to correct and improve. CD Projekt RED therefore had to review its priorities and provide more staff Cyberpunk 2077 after its publication. Plus this is as well The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, should be available in dedicated versions for the Xbox Series X | S and Playstation 5 appear.
Under these conditions, the studio had to postpone its projects. We can still assume that the additional content and the promised multiplayer Cyberpunk 2077 will be incorporated into the final version of the title. Unless, unfortunately, CD Projekt RED has simply decided to give it up. But so far there has been neither a confirmation nor a denial on this topic.
All the lights green for The witcher
The tough times around launch and finishing Cyberpunk 2077 comes to an end with it. And the teams that are responsible for carrying it The Witcher III on the new consoles will also be released very soon. The developer will therefore be able to provide the personnel he wishes to create this new episode.
This will not be a sequel to the adventures of Geralt of Rivia and will not be called “The Witcher IV”. Persistent rumors point to a journey around Ciri’s character. But it could also be a precursor or some other form of ground out
In 2020, Adam Kiciński mentioned a release for this new game in 2024, in less than three years now. But development will only begin in a few months, so that now seems very unlikely. The studio should therefore announce a new, more distant release area. It would be the choice of security, taking the time necessary for quiet and quality production. CD Projekt RED learned its lesson normally and the hard way.
The case Cyberpunk
As a matter of fact, Cyberpunk 2077 now serves as jurisprudence, for better or for worse. The FPS had the potential to become a benchmark in video games early on. The technical promise was unsurpassed, the world presented as appealingly as possible, Night City immersive like never before. The Xbox Series X | S and the Playstation 5 landed in late 2020, just before the title arrived. The public saw it as THE game that allowed them to take full advantage of the new machines.
But the technical pitfalls, which were as numerous as the bet was ambitious, darkened the event. The graphics rendering below the expected level, especially on the aging Xbox One and Playstation 4, and the repeated errors have caused displeasure in the community. And communication from the studio didn’t always help calm the audience’s excitement.
In this context, it is reasonable to ask whether Adam Kiciński’s speech about a new work is not premature.. Indeed, the public might receive him mixed, for Cyberpunk 2077 dragging a couple of pans now. Announcing a second game can be seen as an attempt to distract the community.
Double up or stop
However, Adam Kiciński today confidently announces the beginning of the development of two similarly ambitious titles, and that their respective predecessors. CD Projekt RED has the kidneys strong enough to carry out an AAA, this has not been discussed for a long time. But for the first time, the studio will produce two major games in parallel. It is therefore all the more questioned.
So it looks like a new bet from Kiciński outbidding to reconnect with the community.. CD Projekt RED has impressed its audience for a long time and raised high hopes. But that has already turned against the studio and it is therefore to be hoped that it can now maneuver more skillfully.
The quality of future versions of the Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher III will be a first indication of the possible success of this challenge. And when they hit, the games mentioned this week will once again seal a strong bond between the developer and their audience … or end them. CD Projekt RED seems to be playing literally twice or nothing at all with its two projects, yes with its future.
