China withdraws Monster Hunter movie from theaters

Chinese cinemas claimed that the film contained racist scenes, which upset some users.

by some inhabitants of this country.

After changing its release date several times due to the pandemic, the films of Monster hunter debuted in the past December 4 in Chinese cinemas. However, after the film’s first performances, a controversy began to develop on social media in China over a scene featuring the character of rapper MC Jin and another character played by a white man.

The reason for this veto, would lie after having detected a rhyme that seems to have sparked controversy. The character says “Look at my knees”

(Look at my knees), and another asks “What kind of knees are these?” (What kind of knees are they?), To which the subject answers “Chinese” (Chinese, rhyming “knees” with “Chinese”), this singular play on words, ended up excluding the Chinese Chinese film.
