Huzza! It is Chivalry 2 Start day everyone! We’re thrilled to see players stepping into the full release of our game for the first time. The teams at Torn Banner and Tripwire Presents have worked hard to create one of the best hand-to-hand combat games ever, and now it’s time to show the world!
One of the real things we love about creating this game has been our sandbox approach to card design. Each card is packed with environmental features that make it come alive. There is something funny, revealing or downright grotesque lurking around every corner.
Since we can’t contain our excitement about this release, we took the time to ask a few members of our team to talk a little about their favorite card and why it was created. Read on to see the development team’s tips!
The fall of Lionspire
“The fall of Lionspire has already held some great, unforgettable moments in store for me; Form a shield formation with your allies as you push your way through the narrow city streets as arrows and ballista bolts fly over your head … and then the terrible slaughter that ensues in the penultimate bridge “tug of war” phase . At the end of the card, whether you’re on the winning or losing side, your body will be blown to pieces and thrown high in the air when the trebuchets explode. It’s the ultimate release! ”- Steve Piggott, President, Torn Banner Studios
The Siege of Rudhelm
“The Siege of Rudhelm is my personal favorite. It’s a map where, when our team was still quite early in development, the game really came together and felt like an achievement of all of our goals. Our goal was to create a medieval multiplayer experience that felt on the same dramatic scale as epic Hollywood movie battles. Rudhelm’s first siege and the subsequent street fights through the city are a constant thrill and hit the dark yet cinematic tone of the game. ”- Rasmus Löfström, Chivalry 2 Game Director, Torn Banner Studios
“My favorite card would be The Siege of Rudhelm. I love how the map opens when the attackers push huge siege towers up to the castle walls while fending off incoming attackers. Additionally, standing on top of the siege tower and waiting for enemies to climb up only to give them a kick in the face that knocks them down from on high is extremely satisfying! The map ends with taking the courtyard and entering a huge inner keep, where up to 64 players all try to kill the heir. It’s a complete mess and it’s amazing! ”- Mike Stone, Producer, Tripwire Presents
“While I am enjoying all of this Chivalry 2 Maps for a variety of reasons, with their varied gameplay, objectives, items, and traps, I know I’ll likely get some heartache over my favorite choice: The Siege of Rudhelm. I love the flow and the evolution of this map from the siege of the city walls and battle to the fortress, but the reason Rudhelm stands above the rest is because of these walls and their trap doors. It makes me giggle every time, no matter which team is into it (especially when I’m on the lever – everyone gets dropped)! ”- Jared Creasy, Community Manager, Tripwire presents
The slaughter of Coxwell
“The Battle of Coxwell is my favorite map! It’s this quiet, pastoral setting of a farming village … that quickly plunges into the gnarled chaos of. sinks Chivalry 2. Like other team goal maps, it is told in a proper immersive story with its different phases. The map has an incredible interplay between clever narrative structure and the overall flow of the multiplayer match. Playing as Agathian farmers and successfully thwarting the Mason attackers in Coxwell’s final moments really feels like its own cinematic underdog tale and is one of the shining examples of the narrative depth that Chivalry 2 sets apart from other multiplayer Gaming makes a difference! ”- Alex Hayter, Brand Director, Torn Banner Studios
Chivalry 2 is now available for Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S.
