Surely as a server, you think Coalition talent is wasted working solely on Gears of War. Don’t get me wrong, Gears are awesome, but I would love to see them do something else without creative barriers. Rare is the living example that with freedom you can achieve wonderful things like Sea of Thieves or the promising Everwild.
We’ve seen the studio come out of their comfort zone before with Gears Tactics, and the result is looking more than good based on player and press reviews. So why not try something a little different?
The Colition would bring us new intellectual property
This seems to be happening, Klobrille has discovered a verified profile of a level worker in The Coalition who claims to be work on a new IP. Pedro Camacho D’Andrea He worked for Bandai Namco and SkyBox and now lands in the Vancouver-based studio.
What he’s working on is a mystery. I have gone through all of the studio’s current job postings and none of them mentions any, they are quite ambiguous in general. Then there’s the fact that Microsoft executives said in 2017 that the study would focus on Gears.

The point is that it could well be a new IP also linked to the Gears universe, not necessarily from the main plot, if not a world and conditions apart with different gameplay. I honestly think the franchise is lacking something like that, maybe RPG is the genre that would suit this change the best.
It wasn’t too long ago that there were rumors that the Coalition team was working on this new IP and helping other studios. Maybe the rumors (which came from Jeff Grubb) were ultimately true after all.
