Greetings Guardian! What a year that was destiny 2 so far. The Witch Queen
Now let’s avoid accidentally spoiling the expansion by jumping straight to why today is an exciting day for destiny 2 Player. Today is the day that Titans, Warlocks, and Hunters rip the mud of Throneworld off their boots, return to the newly adorned tower, and begin the annual competition to determine which of the three classes will prevail. That’s right, Guardian Games is back!
This free event runs from May 3rd to May 24th and culminates in a closing ceremony where a class is honored with a trophy that stays in the tower all year round. Along with a trophy placed in the game’s main social room, there are braggart rights to earn new gear and cosmetics, and of course new fun ways to play the game.
New games
The Competitive Strike playlist
A new PvE playlist will be available for the duration of the event. Here you can earn Strike medals as you earn points each week to beat the high score. By completing various feats like multi-kills and kill streaks, you’ll flood your score with extra points. Basically, show the rest of your fireteam what skills look like.
That is, assuming you’ve decided to jump into matchmaking. If you’re interested in upping the challenge and making a mark that you’ve mastered your class, there’s also a solo version of the Competitive Strike Playlist.
And because sometimes you need to warm up first, both matchmaking and solo versions of the strike playlist have practice and competitive versions. Jump into the training playlist and earn some buffs first. Then, when you’re ready to break a sweat, compete to set those high scores and earn glory for your class.
Roam freely
Are you more interested in exploring the Throne World or fighting on one of the new PsiOps battlegrounds? We don’t blame you! We know there are a lot of cool things to do in-game right now, and no matter what you focus on, we want to make sure you can represent your class in the games. So, grab some bounties and set out on your adventures. You automatically collect laurels that you can deposit in the tower to help your class climb the podium in the Guardian Games.
While there are a number of gameplay options, it looks like having your class support is mandatory.
Also fun. Having fun is a must.
New rewards
While we know that securing bragging rights for the whole year is a reward worth its weight in gold, we’ve also added new gear and cosmetics to unlock:
- The title – Chase your perfect throw with this legendary submachine gun; only available during the event.
- New cosmetics – A new Guardian Games collection to put your mind, your friends and your strike team in a competitive mood. Land in the prestigious top 10% of Guardians and also unlock a new emblem.
- New armor adornments – One of the highlights of any Guardian game, swing through Eververse to check out the new glowing ornament sets. When the graduation ceremony begins, show off in style.
- And more!
The fire of competition
Before the event ends and your class victory is immortalized with a trophy in the tower, you can earn Armor Glows throughout the event. At the end of each week, each class will receive an armor shine that changes based on their rank. Will your glow inspire pride or will it spur you to action? No matter which ones you deserve, they all look amazing.
But we didn’t stick to class recognition. There are also torches in the tower that you can light for a glow that shows your individual efforts. Also, whoever has the highest score in the tower at any given time gets a special glow – until someone with a better score comes in.
Just get an unbeatable score and you don’t have to worry about it. Easy.
Timeless metal
Bungie Rewards is also getting into the action. The Bungie Consumer Products team has created two new items that you can unlock for purchase simply by playing the game. Finally something you can literally hold up when your friend foolishly tells you his class is better than yours.
