The Leviathan has returned. For some of you, this could be your introduction to the exiled Cabal Emperor Calus’ iconic planet-eating personal pleasure craft. For the rest of you who’ve been aboard before, we hope you have fond memories of the gleaming gilded halls, because this ship has come back…wrong. Very wrong.
Season of the Haunted begins with the forsaken Leviathan entering our solar system and heading straight for Earth’s moon. As it draws closer, the dormant pyramidal ship on the lunar surface begins to react to its presence.
To worry? We hope so, because that’s where you come in, Guardian.
Find out why the Leviathan is back and what Calus wants with the pyramid ship while confronting nightmares from our past. We strongly advise staying close to your fireteam, avoiding getting lost in the ship’s underbelly, and focusing on positive thoughts about god scrolls and shiny opulent chests.
While this might be one of the spookier times of the year destiny 2Guardians have faced off against literal gods before in the history of , so this shouldn’t be anything you can’t handle.
Everyone is invited to explore the decayed Leviathan, which contains multiple realms filled with a loyalist cabal, mockery, nightmares, loot, and collectibles. There are also two new activities in Season of the Haunted – also aboard the Leviathan. One is called Nightmare Containment and is free to play all season long, and another called Sever, which is unlocked (with a bunch of other cool stuff) by picking up the Season Pass. Regardless of what activity you play, expect to sever nightmares and loot new seasonal rewards.

Unlike previous seasonal activities, Nightmare Containment is a completely free public event that anyone can play. It’s also special in that it scales based on the number of people participating. Players can initiate a new public space event or join a Nightmare Containment if they see one already in progress. Since it scales in difficulty, the enemies and summoned Nightmare bosses should always feel suitably challenging.
Separate
Sever is what we call the weekly mission in Season of the Haunted. This is where players will learn more and more about Calus’ plan as the season progresses. The activity also takes place aboard the Leviathan, but in a dark maze known as the Underbelly. Anyone familiar with this area of the ship will likely recall the navigation skills required. Now imagine that there is something in the dark about you too.
The activity isn’t matchmade, but we don’t blame anyone who’d rather bring a friend…or two.
Though the Leviathan has lost some of its luster, the rewards in Season of the Haunted are now just as snazzy as you’d expect. Possibly even fancier!
- New Exotics – Destiny 1’s exotic sidearm, Trespasser, known for its ability to fire impenitent rounds, has been upgraded for Destiny 2 and has a new attachable catalyst. As with previous seasonal Exotics, you can acquire this by playing or picking up the Season Pass and be one of the first to introduce the Derelict Leviathan to the concept of the Blitz.
- Opulent Weapons – Some of the most coveted weapons from Calus’ collection return and can be found in the opulent chests aboard the Leviathan. when you are in rome
- New seasonal weapons and armor – New Nightmare weapons and seasonal armor sets for Wardens brave enough to explore a mysterious planet-devouring ship.
- New universal ornaments – If you want to wear something that will scare your fireteam more than the enemies you fight, this is it. This is how you become the Reaper of Nightmares.
Solar is the latest subclass that has been completely redesigned to use the ultra-customizable Aspects and Fragments system. This is the system first introduced with Stasis in Beyond Light and added to Void last season. It’s perfect timing, too, as I suspect lighting up Nightmares is actually the best way to handle the situation.
This is a free upgrade for all players, and each class carries its own imagination with a range of buildcrafting options waiting for you when you log in. Personally, I’m a hunter for life, but I’d be lying if I said Solar Warlock didn’t sound that cool. What about it arouses your curiosity?
- titanium: Siege engines powered by the fury of immortal suns. Facing them means losing ground and igniting the whirlpool that is bringing all things to an end.
- Hunter: Radiant duelists who live amidst dazzling skill and dexterity. Beware of the truth of their aim and the molten edge of their blade.
- Sorcerer: Befriend these ardent priests and find restoration. Face them and glimpse destruction in the rain of a shattered dawn.
Boarding the Leviathan (one of my favorite places in destiny 2), fighting Nightmares with a fiery scythe, and a new Solar 3.0 build might be the most perfect way I’ve ever considered to launch the game destiny 2.
