Destiny 2: Season of the Splicer is now live

Destiny, Live, Season, Splicer

The Vex have attacked and for the first time in human history the sun has not come up.

Trapped by an unknown Vex simulation on that endless night, the Vanguard have their eyes set on an unlikely ally – one who can hopefully aid Guardians in their response to the Vex Incursion. That ally is Mithrax, Kell of the House of Light.

Not only is Mithrax a Kell leading a small group of Eliksni refugees, he’s also one of the last of the sacred splicers. A rare group who have mastered the ability to communicate with machines, see the light in code, and even manipulate it.

In return for his help, he only asks for one thing: access to the city for him and his followers, who want to be closer to their God, the traveler. Ikora sends guards to meet Mithrax on Europe, broker the alliance and take a journey into the unknown.

Welcome to Season of the Splicer.

Destiny 2: Season of the Splicer

Network crash

We’re excited that players can take advantage of the splicer technology and adventure through the new synthetic landscape created for this season. It’s unlike anything we’ve done before and we believe the tone and aesthetic of the season will resonate with players old and new alike.

To solve the puzzle that opens the season, players must find answers at the heart of the Vex network. Although Mithrax is constructed in a coded and mysterious language, it will teach players how to traverse the network and use their power to crash it from within. These expeditions into the network take place in two new seasonal activities: Override and Expunge.

Overwrite: This is the new match-made offensive for six players that challenges players to infiltrate the Vex network, steal their code and use it against them. From Europe, multiple destinations will be unlocked throughout the season.

Obliteration: This is a new top activity for one to three players. Every week, players start missions to uncover vulnerabilities in the Vex network. This mission changes every week as the seasonal story unfolds.

Update your technology

Upon meeting Mithrax, the Guardians will be given a splicer glove that they can use to absorb ether, secure splicer upgrades, and unlock chests. There’s also a new section in the HELMET that players can visit to plan their attack, take on challenges, and get rewards.

There are also over 30 new and reclassified weapons to collect, new exotic armor pieces for each class, and over 100 seasonal ranks to unlock.

Season Pass holders also immediately unlock an Exotic Stasis Sidearm, which charges liquid cooling coils with every shot. After switching on, the next charged shot freezes the target in stasis.

Update these calendars as the Vault of Glass returns on May 22nd.

The fan-favorite raid, updated to take full advantage of new sandbox technology, is back … absolutely free for all players.

The rest are rewards that players can carry (in-game and in real life). Destiny 2: Season of the Splicer

Leave a lasting impression

Customizing our guards has always been central Fate 2. It’s a cool way to showcase your character’s individuality and make a lasting impression on the people you meet in the game.

And while the fashion scene has been alive and well, Season of the Splicer will introduce players to a new Guardian Appearance system that will take customization to the next level. Coupled with changes to the shaders and the introduction of armor synthesis, the tools used to create the guardian style have never been more powerful.

Guardian appearance

Previously, players interacted with the appearance of their guardian through the main character screen. They clicked into each individual piece of armor to inspect it and change its appearance with shaders and universal ornaments. Those times are over.

Now there is a new screen where you can customize the look of your guardian. Access all of your armor from one screen. Information about your current shaders and ornaments is available at a glance. Think of it like a changing room for your guardian.

With this powerful and flexible new system, managing all of the armor and shaders in your collection has never been easier. And your collection will be even more impressive …

Armaments synthesis

Have you ever seen a piece of armor and wished you could use it like a universal ornament – by applying the look to the armor you wear? Well now you can.

With the help of Ada-1, Guardians can forge new universal ornaments from most armor Fate 2 Using Synthweave, a new currency available by playing a variety of activities. There’s also a bonus to Synthweave that anyone can get for free by completing the Armor Synthesis introductory quest line.

The future is so bright, I have to wear sunglasses

Before Season of the Splicer, shaders were individual items in your inventory that players had to manage. No more shader? There was another collection area where players could purchase the Shader they wanted for Glimmer and / or Legendary Shards. This purchased shader will then be added to your inventory for use.

Starting this season, this process has been massively optimized. Now shaders are permanent unlocks that can be applied to any item for 500 Glimmers from a single screen. Players simply click on the desired shader in their Guardian Appearance menu and voila, Style points +1.

To celebrate this change and help everyone dress up for success, we’re adding a bundle to Eververse for Glimmer (not Silver) that includes a number of shaders from the early days that players may have missed out on.

Destiny 2: Season of the Splicer

The season of the splicer starts today

There’s more going on from May 11 through August 24 that I couldn’t talk about, including the free Solstice of Heroes event. And remember, the Battlegrounds activity will be available in the HELM for the rest of the year once you pick up Season of the Chosen.

Check out the full calendar, send a message to your fireteam and start planning your season. Fate 2 is free to play and all expansions are available on Xbox Games Pass. Hope you join us when we virtually flip Synthwave tables across the Vex network all season.
