When developing games, FromSoftware never assumes success.
The Japanese video game developer FromSoftware has managed to consistently celebrate great successes over the years. The expert in demanding role-playing games most recently succeeded with Elden Ring.
FromSoftware President Hidetaka Miyazaki spoke with The guard about the successful Elden Ring and says in an interview that the team does not expect to land another hit if they make internal decisions.
Miyazaki said, “Elden Ring was in a class of its own in terms of success and critical acclaim, but we as a company try never to assume that will happen again with our future games.”
“No decision is based on the assumption: hey, we’ve done this before, it will happen again. If we allow this rather conservative forecast, we can also fail – and that in turn leads to better games and better decisions. In a roundabout way, I think that this assumption of not landing another hit, this conservative forecast, inspires and supports our game design.”
A few days ago, Shadow of the Earth Tree, the only expansion for Elden Ring, was released. It has been acclaimed by critics, but players find the difficulty level too high.
