The developer of Dragon’s Dogma 2 talks about the further development of the farmers in the video.
To develop the successor to Dragon’s Dogma, Capcom expanded the concept of pawns. In a video, game director Hideaki Itsuno talks about the aspect of the game and the role of these NPCs.
Speaking about further development and the role of farmers, Itsuno said: “We did everything we could to prevent farmers from repeating the same lines multiple times.”
Unlike the other NPCs, the farmers are meant to be seen more as friends who sit next to you while you play.
“We wanted the farmers to feel like a friend playing the game is sitting next to you and giving you advice. Like, ‘Hey, let’s go this way!’ or ‘In this case this is the right way’. This kind of guidance. It’s like having a friend who guides you in a pleasant way.”
“If you want to look at it in terms of individuality, I think we’ve consciously tried to expand the number of ways in which farmers are individuals. There is a personality, as we just mentioned, and in terms of knowledge, they may have knowledge of certain enemies.”
