Ken Levine creator of previous installments of BioShock and founder of ghost story games, is working on the small studio’s first project since 2014. However, things don’t seem to be going too well and it’s getting too complicated for them.
Irrational games workshop that gave life to BioShock, was closed in 2014, a year after the launch of BioShock Infiniteat. Around this time, series creator Ken Levine created a new, smaller studio under the ownership of Take-Two Interactive, called Ghost Story G ames. However, more than seven years later, it looks like the studio’s debut title is facing a tumultuous production cycle.
In a report published by Bloomberg, several current and former Ghost Story Games employees, many of whom spoke on condition of anonymity, expressed development issues. As this text points out, many of these problems derive largely from the management and authoritarianism of Ken Levine.
Initially, the game, which we still don’t have a name for, was a sci-fi FPS similar to BioShock. Set on a space station and revolving around the idea of a concept, which Levine called “Narrative Lego”. This would cause the player’s actions to drastically change the story, giving each player a unique experience. Actions would also be determined, for example, by our affinity w ith the three factions on the space station and the player.
However, the report describes a development process that saw Levine consistently reject ideas. Although this is something it has done with all of its games in the past, the Bloomberg report talks about the demoralizing effect it had on the staff of Ghost story Games.
Ken Levine has never been without problems with his developments.
The report that went through no one shows that once again Kevin Levine is working very erratically. Still leaving the creative freedom to later throw overboard the months work the developers have done. This is why many members left the project after seeing how they were being asked to do something that would later be treated as waste. This is of course nothing new and has already been evident in previous versions.
According to the report, several staff members left ghost story games since its creation, including several leaders and founding members. The game was originally aiming for a 2017 release, only to be delayed several times for various reasons. ANDthe first title of ghost story games it was in the final stages of production and would be announced sooner rather than later, but over time we see that in the end it all goes up in smoke. Moreover, it is said that the development may not be that advanced and, in fact, it is estimated that the game still has a lot to do before its launch.
