Known for its co-developer skills, Certain Affinity is joining Keywords Studios.
Halo Infinite co-developer Certain Affinity is joining Keywords Studios for an undisclosed sum. For the latter, it is the second acquisition of the year, after the UK studio Wushu Studios was taken over in August.
Certain Affinity was founded in 2006 by former Bungie employees and has since specialized in the co-development of AAA games. In this role, the studio worked on, among other things, Hogwarts Legacy, Gotham Knights, several Call of Duty and Halo spin-offs and most recently Halo Infinite.
The development studio, which has 180 employees in the USA and Canada, will continue to be led by its management team around founder and CEO Max Hoberman and president and COO Paul Sams.
“During this extremely difficult time in the market, we are thrilled to be able to provide stability and a supportive home for our team,” Hoberman said in a statement. “The respect for our talent and culture that Keywords has shown, along with the willingness to invest in our growth, is unparalleled.”
“Paul and I look forward to working with them to chart a course for carefully expanding our core co-development activities, refining our lead development capabilities and driving the growth of the Create division.”
“We are very pleased to welcome Certain Affinity to the Keywords group,” added Bertrand Bodson, CEO of Keywords. “We have great respect for their business and their reputation. They bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise to our Create department, complementing our existing capabilities and expanding our presence, particularly in the US and Canada.”
“We look forward to working with Max, Paul and their team over the coming years to further drive the growth of our Create division and our overall business.”
