In early August, Focus Home Interactive announced that it had gotten its hands on Dotemu. A 77.5% acquisition of the company’s capital, which enables the publisher to expand its catalog of games with expected titles such as Windjammer 2 Where Tactics of the metal snail. The opportunity for the two companies to be happy about this union and for Dotemu to announce new upcoming developments.
Dotemu has completely reinvented itself in just a few years. Since Cyrille Imbert took office, the French team has built an excellent international reputation thanks to its retrogaming expertise. Can revive both cult licenses (Streets of Rage 4) to create remakes that exceed the original (Boy wonder) and edit indie games (Flaming Chrome) Dotemu is now a benchmark in this area. A safe bet.
Recently, the French developer also has new resurrections with them. announced Metal snail tactics, Pharaoh or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. Highly anticipated titles that continued the Dotemu philosophy with the return of the licenses from the 80s / 90s. But that should change very soon as the studio now claims to be working on franchises from the beginning of the 3D era!
In a previously shared press release, Cyrille Imbert, President of Dotemu, acknowledges that the acquisition by Focus Home will make it possible “Start the production of future remakes or suites on licenses for the first generations of 3D consoles”. In other words, the next announced productions will first draw the name from the catalog of PS1 and PS2, Nintendo 64 and GameCube or Sega Saturn, Dreamcast or Xbox. And when you look at the number of iconic licenses that have since been forgotten, the possibilities are enormous!
We now have to wait for more precise announcements to know Dotemu’s ambitions and the licenses in question. Many studios have already expressed their desire to revive games from the past, so the French company has plenty of partners to turn to. Hopefully these future titles will delight our nostalgic fiber!
