Dragon Quest Lead Producer Ichimura Leaves Square Enix
A sad and painful game that is, as he says himself, the long production cycles of games and his age. He points out that he started counting how many more games he could do in his life and there he reconsidered what he is doing. For now, his idea is to reboot and reflect, leave the Square Enix environment and explore what he can do if he dares to go into a higher risk environment.
I started counting how many games I can do in my life.
I would like to leave this blessed environment and explore what can be done if I dare to push myself into a higher risk environment.
It’s a sudden report, but as of March 31, I retired from Square Enix.
I have a lot of thoughts, so this is going to be long, so please take a look at the attached note.
Thank you very much to all the staff who worked with us and to all the users!#edge#graduation pic.twitter.com/OQEthv83UC—Ryutaro Ichimura (@RyutaroIchimura) March 31, 2023
Ichimura has participated in virtually every release of the Dragon Quest saga. The last game was Dragon Quest Treasure, exclusive to Nintendo Switch, while the last major numbered game was the eleventh installment, which is available on various platforms, including Xbox Series X|S and Xbox. Additionally, Dragon Quest XII: Flames of Destiny is currently in development, a title that does not yet have a release date and in which it is unknown what role Ryutaro has played so far.
