Award-winning title Dull Gray is finally coming to Xbox after being one of the hottest indie titles on the scene.
For the one who is not very worn, Dull gray she is an award winner visual novel set in a harsh and ruthless world. Developed by the Russians of Explorer games, the title is released originally in 2019 on PC, garnering critical acclaim and winning multiple awards, which motivated him to this Dull Gray has been released on more platforms that same month of May.
In this adventure we get in the skin of Kir, a boy who travels with his mother. This is the day you should know to the browser and choose a job to which he will be tied for the rest of his life. The journey will take us through a frozen wasteland, in which the whole world is bent by two oppressive systems: constant environmental disasters caused by geysers
As it is a memorable day in our life, people will come and ask us what are we going to choose to do in life. We will meet our aunt, our grandmother, our mother’s boyfriend and other strangers who ask us what we want to be. We can choose between two options. One is be a street light lighter, who are in charge of the maintenance of the transport networks. However, it is dangerous work at Dull Gray as our father worked as a lamppost and this work led to his death. The other option is be an accountant, acting as a state agent and spying on communications. It is safe and stable work, but one that does not arouse sympathy among the citizens.
The game scenarios are very beautiful and at the same time they offer a feel restless very interesting, because they are m ade with an artistic technique that makes them look like sketches made with paper and pencil
In the frame reached, this is where Dull Gray offers the best of himself. We are in a dark and gloomy worldJust that everyone treats him naturally, giving the feeling of having adapted to him, which seems impossible to us. The result is to come up with a scenario oppressive and atmospheric, which is impressive considering that Dull Gray offers minimal playability, as the title is based on the offer a good ambient soundtrack, interesting landscapes and short dialogues with the characters around you.
On a negative note, the choice between helping the people or helping the state, i.e. between potential death or becoming an enemy, is a difficult choice, yes, but that has no significant consequence. In other words, here we are supposed to get a message, but that doesn’t say much about this world or ours, something other titles like Inside have done.
Also, it looks like Dull Gray is missing something, it’s a bit incomplete. And of course its length doesn’t help get that out of our heads, since the game ended in about 20 minutes. It’s true that it’s a replayable title for exploring other options and unlocking alternate endings or achievements, but it seems like it all ends in a blast. A very short sigh. The title has Spanish subtitles, although the screenshots accompanying the scan are those offered by the company in English.
As a title based on an alternate future, Dull Gray offers a sort of evocative feel, but one that does not satisfy us due to a more than clear misconception. With such a short duration, it looks like we’re up against a sort of deep mini-game, rather than a title in itself. It’s an interesting experience, but not for all audiences.
