Microsoft and Coalition managed to attract considerable attention with the announcement of Gears of War: E-Day during Xbox Games Showcase earlier this month. This third-person shooter was touted as the next main title in the franchise, generating such enthusiasm that it caused a significant increase in player numbers from previous installments.

Using a sample of over 2.4 million Xbox accountsit was observed that after the announcement of Gears of War: E-Day, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition experienced a 323 percent increase in the number of players in Xbox consoles. Although it failed to enter the top 40 most played games on Xbox that week, Gears 5 did, rising to 34th after a 66% increase in its player base.
The video game will be a prequel to the series, taking place 14 years before the events of the first game.
The game is currently in development for Xbox Series X/S and PC. Although no official release date has been announced yet, reports suggest that the game could be scheduled for release in 2025.
