Easy to learn gameplay, but can be very challenging
Moving fully into the purely playable realm, another caveat we must make is that the game is more platform than metroidvania. We will have something that goes backwardsbut rather as a necessary tool to advance the story and not as a playable mechanic. The crux of the problem will lie in the precision platforming that has been with us for many years.
After a short tutorial in which we will learn the basic mechanics, we will access the world of Eden Genesis to, little by little, progress in a story that, as we said, is very interesting. The The basic actions that we will have are the classics of this type of games: jumping, double jumping, rushing, climbing walls, etc. All this can be done in a “limited” way, since we will have a kind of counter (a bar located in the lower margin) that will “measure” the number of actions we can do in this brief maneuver.
We will also have enemies to eliminate. For this we have a normal attack and a strong attack. But also, if we collect some objects scattered on the stage, this will allow us to fire a kind of “cannon shot” that will be ultra-destructive and will even go through walls to do a lot of damage.
Several challenges await us on the map
With the basic mechanics explained, it remains to be seen how they translate into a playable world. As they say, after the tutorial, we will be thrown into the city and we will have “doors” that will give us access to these scenarios. I found it to be a very interesting addition that, in addition to forcing you to bite and surpass yourself, will help those who need help in their strategy.
It has several options so you can adapt it to your tastes

Without wanting to go into much more detail, I will now address the technical aspect of the game. Not before leaving my admiration for its aestheticsvery successful and which shines especially in the yearscinematic sequences that tell us the story. Even having some touches of the study Ghiblithe art is not only visual, but (even if this version did not have it yet) we will appreciate the music by the famous pianist Eleskywhich provides the soundtrack of the game. Undoubtedly a great addition and a great success, since the combination gives an excellent result.
We developed almost the entire game in Steam bridge. On PC we tested it and noticed some tearing, but we understand that these small bugs will be fixed before launch (we had access to the game well before its launch).
On the other hand, on Steam Deck it works perfectly. Without the need to make any additional adjustments, the game runs perfectly and the 60 FPS is stable and rock solid. In addition, if we limit the TDP to 8 for example, the frame rate still does not change or its performance suffers a bit. Of course, the battery savings between releasing the TDP or adjusting it somewhat are almost zero, so it is not worth skimping on the battery. The consolidated Valve PC lasts about 4 hours without having to charge it. And thanks to the playability, it is a game that is suitable for spending a few minutes when you do not have much time, since they are short phases, also ideal for short games.
Eden Genesis Analysis: Conclusions
Eventually, we really liked Eden Genesis. Although we are talking about a game more focused on platforms than on the metroidvania aspect, we are faced with a game that, in addition to shining in the narration, offers us a challenge adapted to each of us. Completing the story won’t take you many hours, but if you want to get the most out of the game, you have games for hours and hours. And all this seasoned with a sublime aesthetics which serves as a prelude to a straightforward and addictive gameplay.
