Hello and welcome to this brand new column where some XboxSquad members will be sharing their favorites from the past month with you. Re-release, Game Pass game or even titles from a backlog, regardless of its origin, as long as the adventure has shaped a member of the team. No more chatter, let’s see who played what in May 2021!
Hellblade (Mich_t)
This month of May I finally made it Hellblade. After weeks of hesitation – because I’m a coward – I took the plunge to find the newest baby from Ninja Theory. And what a blow! I had never had such a sound and narrative experience in a video game before. The track is particularly stressful on headphones. The work of the developers in localizing sound effects is impressive. These little voices tormenting the heroine will drive you crazy! So much so that sometimes I wanted to knock on my helmet.
Visually, the game looks great even four years later on the Xbox Series X, which adds to the immersion. Since I don’t expect anything from the gameplay, I liked puzzles and battles that are entirely in the service of narrative here. Finally, a documentary on the treatment of psychosis in the game is proposed and the work of Ninja Theory relativized to stay true to the research and testimony. In short, an adventure that I will not soon forget and that I warmly recommend to anyone looking for a job beyond video games.
Quite different: after these intense hours I played The game in the heart. That’s a pretty one Picmina– like peppered with puzzles with a touching story that will last 6-7 hours. Perfect for relaxing afterwards Hellblade.
Slime rancher (Jess Bond)
There are some games that I don’t expect anything from at the start and I’m very positively surprised by the result. This is the case of Slime rancher, a title that perfectly combines managing a farm with exploring an unknown world. After graduation Island saver A few months earlier, I understood that this title had the same mechanics, and that is absolutely correct. In a totally relaxed atmosphere, I really had a lot of fun managing my slime farm and wandering this world that had a hell of a lot of secrets just begging to be revealed. In summary, Slime rancher is a great surprise that I recommend to all players who are primarily looking for an absolutely uncomplicated game.
I also looked at a radically different register this month Leftover: From the ashes and its DLC. I appreciated the richness of the replayability of the title, which above all offers a procedural adventure with variations in bosses, environments and items to recreate. If you have the desire to unravel a game’s tiniest secrets, then Leftover: From the ashes is made for you!
WRC 9th (Frank1707)
This month of May was an opportunity for my part to delve into the saga in earnest WRC. Basically, I’m interested in cars and therefore in racing games. But I admit I prefer rally or open world games like that Forza horizon for those who are confined to the circulatory system. Last year I had the chance to try the saga again WRC about the eighth episode test. However, I hadn’t touched it in the meantime, until this month when I started WRC 9th. And what a slap I took!
Even the simulation side that the series has offered since the previous opus is certainly complicated, but once you get used to it the experience is realistic and you really feel the thrill of this discipline. In addition, it is in one for Xbox Series X | The optimized version in 4K with 60 frames per second is a pleasure! Especially since the game is really nice. In short, I love this game which, to me, is the best rally game I have ever played.
Octopath Traveler (Ashaika)
The principle of bringing eight travelers together in a single adventure appealed to me. While not running behind J-RPGs, the return to turn-based combat with this adopted artistic direction convinced me. However, I didn’t expect to fall in love with this story. I like the company of Primrose, Cyrus, Ophélia and so many others more and more as the game progresses. The combat system is relatively intuitive, but it has a real depth that allows me to move forward at my own pace. force it as you do with other games.
If you want to discover great stories in an old fashioned J-RPG that has moved on, Octopath Traveler is made for you.
Human case flat (Niko1664)
It is always a great pleasure for me when an extension arrives Human case flat. The very special gameplay of our avatar will put off most players, but for many it is guaranteed to make you laugh! Above all, that up to eight people can run online at the same time in the very different levels that make up Tomas Sakalauskas’ title. The community around the game is extremely active and new content is added regularly and free of charge. What more ?!
This week is the level Forest which we could discover as well as the Xbox Series X | S optimization. Which immediately makes me immerse myself in it again. So yeah, it’s true … you have to spend half the time fighting your character who obviously doesn’t feel like doing what is asked of him, but it’s always a joy to solve a puzzle and make progress. If this is your first time starting the title, give it a chance. You could have fun.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition (JiTeuBey)
To be honest, I hesitated until the last minute with my choice. At first I wanted to talk about it evaluation that I really appreciated and that introduced me to the universe of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. I will also start the series of Yakuza, Thanks to him. Then I thought about it Resident Evil Village which I liked very much. But it’s at the end Mass Effect Legendary Edition what will have tipped the balance. The reason is very simple, it’s the nostalgic effect without the unpleasant aftertaste of a heavily aged game.
If the remaster isn’t perfect, it still does enough to plunge me back into this wonderful universe. I started in Normandy for the first time in 2008 and I have to admit that 13 years later I haven’t forgotten much. These characters and their relationships, these epic missions to the four corners of space, exploring hostile worlds, … Ah, if I just talk about it, I want to take control again! If we add a bunch of new achievements to unlock, I’ll be in heaven. Although I think the trilogy remake will keep me busy for months, I promise, I’ll be talking about another game in June!
