The Embracer Group does not intend to slow its acquisition pace. This week the company has won five new companies. On the menu of the Swedish giant is the creation of a new branch through the takeover of Dark Horse and the strengthening of its production capacities through the integration of various studios.
Dark Horse, comic heavyweight
Probably the largest acquisition announced is that of Dark Horse. The company known worldwide for its comics owns or controls more than 300 licenses. Among the most famous we find for example Hell boy or Umbrella academy
Dark Horse is Embracer’s tenth task force, among others like THQ Nordic, Koch Media, and Saber Interactive. At the top we find the president who was already in office at the time of the takeover, namely Mike Richardson. The size of the deal was not disclosed.
Perfect World Entertainment under the control of Gearbox
The US publisher and developer Perfect World Entertainment also joins the Embracer family under The Gearbox Entertainment Company. The company known for its MMOs – Star Trek Online, Never winter – however, retains its developmental autonomy. Next release planned for March 2022 with the newly announced Have a good death. Five titles are planned by 2024.
This operation adds 237 employees to the Embracer Group. Transaction Total: $ 125 million. Studios owned by Perfect World Entertainment such as Cryptic Studios are included in this buyout and will also become part of the group.
DIGIC, Shiver Entertainment and Spotfilm Networx join Saber Interactive and Koch Media
The animation expert DIGIC stocks, based in Hungary, has also been acquired by the Embracer Group and will become a subsidiary of Saber Interactive. DIGIC specializes in Production of trailers and cinematics for industry as well as in the production of animation series for streaming platforms
For example, they worked on Love, death & robots for Netflix, but also on licenses such as Assassin’s Creed, The Witcher or League of Legends. For now, the operation is subject to conditions, including approval from the Hungarian Ministry of Innovation and Technology. In this case, more than 400 employees would join the Embracer workforce.
Second studio at Saber Interactive, Shiver entertainment. The latter was launched by industry veterans and consists of around twenty people. We owe it to them in particular Scribblenaut Showdown, sort on Xbox One, PS4 and Switch. The aim is to strengthen Saber’s presence in the United States.
Embracer finally takes action Spot film network, the first ad-supported network of video-on-demand channels. This German company will be integrated as a subsidiary of Koch Media. So far, the group has not clearly identified the reasons for this acquisition.
