Hello Xbox fans,
Today I am very happy to be able to say these words: Cuphead – The delicious final course has a release date! Brave brothers Cuphead, Mugman and the brand new Ms. Chalice will embark on this next adventure on June 30th, 2022 when the game launches on Xbox One and Windows PC. we simple announced the announcement at The Game Awards, wanting to come straight to Xbox Wire to tell people what to expect when they revisit Inkwell Isles next summer.
Cuphead – The delicious final course sees Cuphead and Mugman set sail for DLC Isle, an untamed and previously undiscovered island off the coast of the main squid islands. In true Cuphead fashion, however, they find that the island is home to a new cast of fearsome, larger-than-life bosses, all tied to a mission to take on on behalf of the jubilant and cheerful chef Saltbaker. We’d like to keep what this quest is and where it will lead our intrepid heroes a little longer, but it’s fair to say that it could be our greatest adventure of the brave little cups so far.
And at the center of this brand new search? A completely new playable character, Ms. Chalice. As some of our longest running and most passionate Cuphead Xbox fans will surely recognize her as The Legendary Chalice – the ghostly wise creature found in the mausoleum stages of the original game, where she will give you the mighty super arts.
In her new form, however, Ms. Chalice has a madness all its own and has been crafted from the ground up with a host of unique abilities that we believe will enable players to take down bosses in clever new ways. Which is good considering the bosses in Cuphead – The delicious final course are by far the largest we have ever created. To put it in perspective, there are individual phases of a boss in this expansion that have more animation frames than entire bosses from the original Cuphead! While the development of this game has certainly been influenced by the unique and challenging circumstances we find ourselves in today, I am so proud of how our team has continued to focus on quality and refine their craft to produce the richest and most detailed graphics, animation, to deliver, painting and design we have ever done as a studio.
Speaking of detail, we can’t imagine this announcement otherwise than with an authentic homage from the 1930s. We were very lucky to be able to work remotely with Stop Motion Studio Screen novelties in Los Angeles on a trailer with physically manufactured sets, puppet dolls, shadow play animations and classic practical effects. For those with a keen eye, I recommend watching the trailer again and studying the physical representation of our DLC Isle map which has many secrets!
It is often said that “every video game that is released is an accomplishment,” and that’s something that I think our entire industry has felt twice as much, so make games in the midst of these unique times. In our case, we were particularly challenged by things like safely putting together a live orchestra to perform the soundtrack of our game. Our guiding principle throughout the experience, however, has been the quality of the game and we will be so excited to see what everyone will think of The Delicious Last Course when it releases next year. Hope you have saved your appetite for adventure!
