Sandfall Interactive shows gameplay of its title coming to Game Pass on day one
When Xbox announced Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 In its showcase, many players who can’t stand turn-based games were captivated not by the title’s visuals, but by its reactive combat. And that’s it in the Gamescom 2024 we were able to see the RPG with more depth and convinced me to try it when it arrives in 2025.
Many gamers agree that they have certain vibes with the beloved Lost Odyssey, but the truth is that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 It draws a lot of inspiration from games like Persona and Final Fantasy. In these gameplays, you can see the character Gustave and scenarios such as Flying Waters (an underwater kingdom) and Ancient Sanctuary.
These areas and others that we will see in the game, are free to explore carefully, being able to find places of interest, treasures and other valuable objects. We can choose the starting character and we will find enemies with which to start the battle (in turns and all the paraphernalia) or hit them before this happens and get an advantage.
As for the combat, we were able to see quite a few of its mechanics, with their respective menus depending on the character’s turn to choose to attack, defend, use skills and other actions. Each companion will have unique abilities and will use them depending on the moment and the enemy will be able to define the course of the fight.
For example, Gustave It has a mechanical arm that charges with other abilities and deals massive damage when triggered. Moon can create elementary blobs created by spells launched and can be consumed to trigger additional effects, while Maëlle He can apparently take on different sword fighting stances to allow for a range of different abilities and stat changes.
We can freely point weapons or spells at the enemy or the point of our choice, which gives dynamism to the gameplay so that it is not a “more turn-based game”. In addition, by pressing the right buttons at the right time, you can trigger additional attacks, block or dodge enemy blows and offer an incredible visual spectacle.
Expedition 33 end with the reward of battle points and experience we have earned, as well as more in-depth statistics such as damage, number of parades and successful dodges, and more. We can even get a bonus for taking no damage, which gives the player an extra challenge.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 will arrive in early 2025 on Xbox Series X|S, the same day Xbox Game Pass launches, and on PC. Let’s take a look at this spectacular exploration and gameplay:
