Far Cry 6 tops the US sales charts in October, followed by Back 4 Blood and Metroid Dread.
The NPD Group has released its data for video game software and hardware sales in the United States for October 2021.
The best-selling game of the month came as no surprise with Far Cry 6. It topped the software charts on both PlayStation and Xbox and instantly became the eighth best-selling game of the year. In second place is Back 4 Blood on both the PlayStation and Xbox charts.
Metroid Dread debuted in third place, was the best-selling Switch game of the month, and had the highest-selling Metroid game ever in its launch month. Start-up sales are almost double that of Metroid Prime, which previously held that record.
There are a number of other new releases that can be found in the top 10 of the software charts, including Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles in fifth place, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy in seventh place, Mario Party Superstars in eighth place and NHL 22 in ninth place.
In terms of hardware, while the PlayStation 5 was the dominant console in September, the Nintendo Switch has once again taken the lead thanks to the introduction of the Switch OLED. It was the best-selling console of the month, both in terms of units sold and revenue generated.
The Switch is still the best-selling console of 2021 in terms of units sold, while the PlayStation 5 remains at the top in terms of US dollar sales this year.
