If you want to play Final Fantasy XIV on the Xbox Series X|S, you can’t do it without a Game Pass subscription.
The open beta for the Xbox Series X|S begins on February 21st, before Final Fantasy XIV is released in the spring. But if you want to play the game in its entirety and not just in the open beta, you absolutely need the Game Pass. Square Enix confirmed this in a recent statement. It doesn’t matter whether you choose Game Pass Core or Game Pass Ultimate.
This circumstance is particularly annoying for two reasons: Since the game is already based on a subscription model, you not only have to pay for this, but also for the Game Pass subscription. PlayStation players, on the other hand, can get by without a PlayStation Plus subscription, whether they play on the PS4 or the PS5.
This means that only the open beta and the free trial version of Final Fantasy XIV without Game Pass are available to you if you have not already taken out a subscription.
