Last evening, Microsoft published its company figures and surprised with the triumph of the gaming division over Windows.
Microsoft is now known for many things. For the mainstream, the company continues to be synonymous with the Windows operating system and Office applications.
However, Windows had no chance in the last quarter – Q2 2024 – and lost to the gaming division for the first time. Logical, it can be explained, but first take a look at the numbers:
Microsoft increased sales by 18 percent to around $62 billion in the last quarter. This also increased net profit – by a full 33 percent – which recently led to an increase of 21.9 billion US dollars.
The gaming division accounts for a significant share of the exciting figures. For the first time, this brought in more money for Microsoft than the Windows operating system. Of course, this area of the company owes the upswing primarily to the takeover of Activision Blizzard.
As The Verge reports, the net impact the acquisition had on sales was approximately $2 billion.
However, various costs must of course be deducted, for example for integrating the company into your own processes, the transaction itself and much more. The calculation is quite complex; if you’re interested, you’ll find it in The Verge article.
Overall, it can be said that gaming brought in sales of $7.11 billion, while Windows lagged behind, so to speak, with $5.26 billion in the last quarter, if you want to put it in these dimensions.
