For Gears of War: E-Day, The Coalition promises a new gameplay experience and an exploration of the origins of the Chainsaw Lancer.
What can players and especially long-time fans expect from the recently announced Gears of War: E-Day?
With Gears of War: E-Day, the game will focus on Emergence Day and players will experience this day from the perspective of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago.
Although it goes back to the beginning historically, that does not mean the same for the gameplay. Director Matt Searcy and Brand Director Nicole Fawcette from The Coalition spoke to Windows Central about this theme.
Searcy said, “We think we have a pretty good idea of what makes Gears a great game, but that doesn’t mean we have to go back to the simplest version of Gears. There are a few things we’ve tried that haven’t worked so well, and a few things we’ve tried that have actually turned out pretty well.”
“We know there’s this linear ‘against all odds’ core theme that runs through the game, but there’s room to play with that. We have a whole city to play with. Gears of War: E-Day is going to feel like a f*****g awesome Gears game, like what people have in their heads. But it’s also going to feel like a new game. It’s going to have a new feel. It’s going to feel fresh and good at the same time.”
In addition, there could be an encounter with General RAAM. When asked about the antagonist of the first part, both just smiled and said that they would not answer any questions about the story at the moment.
Players can also look forward to seeing the origin story of “many things” from the Gears universe, including the Chainsaw Lancer.
They said: “We’ll see that the Chainsaw Lancer was built after the fact because there were no weapons that could penetrate her super-thick skin. We’ll tell the story of how that came about, and yes, you’ll be able to use it too.”
