Gen-Z gamers in Japan have almost no interest in the PlayStation 5 and Xbox.
A 2023 survey about the gaming habits of Japanese teenagers recently caused a stir on social media. It shows that the majority of Generation Z gamers do not own or use a PS5 or Xbox and are not interested in the consoles at all.
When it comes to preferred gaming devices, the first five answers show a clear preference for handhelds and PCs.

One could say that the Xbox and PlayStation 5 are less popular among young Japanese gamers than the discontinued Nintendo DS.
Even among those who described themselves as “hardcore gamers” in the survey, the three most important gaming devices remained smartphones, the Nintendo Switch and the PC.
