Tip 1: Bigger chains = more sharpening stones
In whetstoneplayers must create murderous chains by connecting like-colored monsters we call Creeps and Jerks. Movement equals murder in whetstone: The bigger the chain, the harder Jorj hits! Cut a chain of ten Creeps and a shiny, luscious whetstone will pop out! Grindstones are used to buy new weapons and gear, so you’ll have to be greedy and grab as many as you can! What happens when you kill your way through a chain of 20 creeps? 30? 40? Bigger whetstones!
Tip 2: Know your enemies
It can be tempting to fight with swords drawn, but my advice is study your enemies well! Some throw mean blows, others throw deadly javelins or even spit fire. So you know who is doing what, You can press the left trigger or the left bumper to show the damage preview for all aggro creeps and jerks. This will show you where you don’t want to be when these guys attack! But you don’t always want to avoid these dangerous enemies. You can use jerks in your chain to change the creep colors and make even bigger chains that spit out some big, honking whetstones. And that’s not all, you can sometimes get Jerks to do heavy lifting for you by attacking nearby obstacles.
Tip 3: Use level cards as a shopping list
If you ever run out of resources, you’ve come to the right place. You can preview each one whetstone level has to offer by checking the symbols on a level map before jumping in. It’s like shopping, but with violence! Some resources can only be found in certain biomes or by killing certain enemies on the way up Grindstone Mountain. Just need one more Bonedust to craft this Gnarled Bone Shard Shield? Check the level map to find out which level has what you need!
Tip 4: Good things come to those who wait
You may be tempted to run out of a level once you reach the goal and the door opens. Finally, you’re looking at a pack of aggressive creeps and jerks wanting a taste of your blood. But exiting completed levels is for beginners! In whetstonejust because you may leaving doesn’t mean you want to! Huge treasure chests fall onto the board, luring you with juicy loot, hard-to-find resources, and the ultimate prize: blueprints that you can use to craft brand new weapons and gear! So make sure you snag the key from the Creep hoarding it and grab the chest in front of GTFO.
Tip 5: Your mom was right, eat your greens!
This is probably my favorite life saving tip. What’s the catch you ask? No catch, but the currency for snagging these goodies is killing…creep kills. Will you be able to enjoy those snacks with those bloody hands? Anyway, put your favorite snack in the lunch box before heading back into battle. The ““Eat Your Greens” snack will erase your entire creeps board and replace it with green creeps. Use that to make some huge chains and take out some hard jerks or bosses.
