Gylt is a tender horror game for everyone

When we think of horror games, the following titles often come to mind: silent HillresiDent Evilor the latest amnesia or layers of fearbut where are the horror games that are suitable for younger audiences?

While the children’s horror genre is not uncommon in other media such as films or books (e.g. “Hotel Transylvania” or “Goosebumps”), the video game industry has not released such titles. Even our first game at Tequila Works, cover (2012) was a survival horror game not intended for a teenage audience. So what’s different with gold plated?

The origin of nightmares

gold plated is a very personal game, born out of the personal experience of a relative of a studio member. Her little cousin suffered from bullying at school. And what’s scarier than what’s more realistic and closer to our daily lives?

We have developed this original idea into one tender horror Game in which our young protagonist Sally is looking for her missing cousin Emily. On her journey, she will run away from tyrants and be led to a stranger and more dangerous version of the city. There she encounters Emily’s worst nightmares. And this is where our slogan makes sense: Fear the shapes, shape the fears! Our little protagonist has to hide from them or, if possible, fight them with a simple flashlight.

Bullying is serious business

Make no mistake, this is a game and you will have fun, be scared and jump off your couch. But as I said, bullying at school is what moves us all.

During the development of gold plated We worked closely with a group of professional psychologists. They helped us portray bullying in a subtle way.

Stephen King, Coraline and Alan Wake are behind gold plated‘S inspiration

Does the Bachman name sound familiar to you? This proves that you are interested in horror literature. Richard Bachman was the pseudonym Stephen King used for some of his novels in the 70’s and that’s the name we chose for the in-game school.

And who hasn’t seen Coraline? If you’re familiar with Neil Gaiman’s creation, you’ll find that we took some inspiration for the film’s atmosphere from both our game and others Alan Wake.

As lovers of horror fans, we’re not ashamed to say that we’ve taken inspiration from some of the best.

Is this game for me?

When we say that the game is suitable for a younger audience, we’re not saying that an adult or hardcore horror gamer can’t enjoy it. What we’re saying is there’s no blood, no swear words, and no real guns. The creature designs, the atmosphere and the music will send shivers down everyone’s spine.

All players are challenged to fight or hide from the monsters and solve puzzles on their way to Emily while enjoying a meaningful story. And if you pay attention to the collectibles and the writing on the walls, you’ll delve deeper into the history of the town of Bethewood and its people.

The music does everything

When you take music and sounds out of a horror creation, it stops being scary. Therefore for gold plated We have collaborated with the world-renowned composer Cris Velasco, who is responsible for the music of carrion, Father Immortal or Clive Barker’s “Jericho”. But he’s also always been something of a member of the Tequila Works family gold plated on which he worked The Invisible Hours And Groundhog Day: Like father like son soundtrack.
