Hearthstone’s decade was marked by a lack of major crossovers with other Blizzard games, despite them being based in the Warcraft universe. However, this changes with the launch of the Heroes of Starcraft mini-set next January.
This set not only fits perfectly with the current interstellar theme, but also promises to include as many iconic units as possible.
Kerrigan, Artanis and Raynor will be added as playable cards
Cards in the expansion will be marked with an icon designating their Terran, Protoss, or Zerg affiliation, but they can be played in multiple classes. Zerg will focus on total aggrowhile the Protoss will focus on the high mana cost card game and the Earthlings will be able to build and launch battleships. Each faction will be led by a hero cardmeaning when played it will replace your current hero power.
Senior game designer Leo Robles González also hinted that he hoped to hear some classic Starcraft music, and confirmed that a map will be based on Grunty, the earth-structured murloc which was given as a WoW companion to BlizzCon attendees in 2009.
Heroes of Starcraft was announced as part of Warcraft’s 30th anniversary livestream, which also included a preview of the upcoming year of Hearthstone. The Year of the Raptor will take players on a tour of iconic Warcraft locations, starting with the Emerald Dream, which sees druids battle the Old Gods for the fate of the World Tree.
