What if vampires really existed? What if these bloodthirsty predators lived hidden among us, meticulously and deftly hatching schemes throughout the centuries? And what if you became one of them? This is the world of Vampire: The Masquerade – Swan Songa narrative RPG in which your decisions determine the fate of our three main characters and the entire vampiric society of Boston.
in the swan song, play as Emem, Galeb and Leysha, three century-old vampires investigating the ashes of a horrific attack that has brought your secret organization, the Boston Camarilla, to its knees. Who’s after you? How far will your loyalty to the Prince of Boston stretch when compared to your personal motivations? And how long can you respect the Masquerade, the vampiric law that hides your existence from mortals?
Each character can be played in order and the style you choose, intimidation and stealth are just some of the options on the table. After all, each character comes from a different vampire clan, a different bloodline that unlocks specific vampiric powers disciplines. For example, Emem has quickness that grants members of the Toreador clan supernatural speed and reflexes. Throughout your journey, you’ll gain experience that you can spend in the character sheet to advance these disciplines.
Alternatively, you can invest in more general ones skills and attributes like psychology or technology, making it easier to read people or navigate the latest human technology. That’s not all, your playstyle and the choices you make will also affect your character sheet by adding permanents Trains. After the overview, let’s see how Emem can handle one of the many situations in Swansong, using either her vampiric powers or her wits.
The Boston Camarilla is the main vampiric sect in Boston, but it is far from the only one. In one of the missions in the game, Emem is sent by the prince to try to convince the leader of the rival vampire group to join forces. in the swan song, there are several ways to deal with such tricky situations. Depending on your playstyle, character arc, and past choices, the options available to you can vary greatly.
For example, those with their ears to the ground can poke around and hear what the local vampires have to say. This way you can find out that a certain someone wants to betray their boss and may be willing to make an agreement with you. You can choose to help him bring down his boss, or report his betrayal and potentially gain the boss’s trust if he believes you.
This time we’re going to take down the boss and it’s a classic frame job. Our task is to gain access to a safe room and deposit some compromising documents in a safe that only the boss has access to. The easiest way might be to use your vampiric discipline, presenceor the ability conviction to trick the guard into letting you into the room. But it’s important to remember that each character in swan song also has her character sheet and if your stats aren’t high enough then you will be left in an awkward position.
Alternatively, explorers can find and use a path behind some closed doors speed to gain access to secret passages through the roof or an alternative route through the sewers and enter the security room completely unseen. It’s an option that leaves fewer witnesses if you have the skills for it.
These are just four of the options at your disposal, but whether you’re manipulating documents, convincing mortals and vampires alike with your rhetoric or vampiric charisma, finding secret passages, or more, one question remains. Are you ready to face the consequences of your actions? We’ll see when the game will be released on May 19th on the Xbox Series X|S!
