As Gungrave GORE with release approaching later this year, I had the chance to chat with Mr. Yasuhiro Nightow, the legendary mangaka artist and creative force behind cult anti-hero Grave, to answer some of my burning questions about this upcoming stylish third -person game shooter about how he started drawing, how he thinks Grave fits in with the other heroes of today, and who would win in a Grave vs. Deadpool battle.
When did you first start drawing and writing?
My earliest memory is when I was about kindergarten age and had already drawn a comic book starring Snoopy as the main character. I was drawing at the time because I was in the mood.
Who is Grave and what does he do?
He is a character who will destroy everything in his path with a coffin and two pistols to relieve all your stress.
How did you originally come up with the character Grave?
I started by imagining a video game screen. At that moment, his back was already turned to us, so I started by designing his back.
How does it feel to have a new generation of gamers excited about the latest game, Gungrave GORE.?
I think this is a crazy surprise that studio Iggymob is presenting for me and all of you from past to present. I wish from the bottom of my heart that this project is successful.
What’s your favorite Grave weapon?
It’s the rocket launcher he rests on his shoulder that fires in the classic and elegant desperado pose.
How do you think Grave fits in with today’s other anti-heroes and super beings?
I have a delusion that it will fit perfectly for you Marvel vs Capcom Series. Although it’s neither Marvel nor Capcom. if it was Mortal Kombat
Who would win in a Grave vs Deadpool fight?
Grave calmly defends against Deadpool, who keeps punching. But after tens of thousands of battles, Deadpool, who has the ability to recover perfectly, will eventually win. But the most important point is that nine times out of ten Deadpool will just get bored mid-fight.
Many thanks to Yasuhiro Nightow-san for taking the time to talk to me about this exciting upcoming game. Gungrave GORE will be launched later this year on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. to learn more Follow Gungrave GORE on Twitter for the latest news and information.
